Quote: David Bussell @ January 20 2009, 10:05 AM GMTThe word "Rubbish" always goes down a storm with Americans for some reason. As does "Balls!" said in that Withnail sort of way.
I seem to remember Matthews and Linehan expounding on the word "Bra" in a book of their collected Ted scripts, talking about how it's a delightful word that just sort of "hangs there".
'bra' in an Irish accent is funny.
Accents make or break a word as far as I'm concerned.

My fiance is from Lubbock, Texas. That's where I met her in fact. The only reason I even ended up there was because I thought the word was so funny. I even bought myself a T-Shirt that says "Lubbock or Leave it."
Just think, David, there's a hot babe in Snortypants, Idaho, kicking herself now.

Quote: Seefacts @ January 19 2009, 8:07 PM GMTIn real life, the word 'poo' is very funny. But I don't think I'd use it in a sitcom.
And yet it'll be used quite often when reviewing your sitcom.
For me, Razzle always makes me laugh. Definitely the funniest porn mag title.

I don't know, I always loved "Knaive" as a title. Or "Legs Akimbo, Asian Bimbo."
Nincompoop.
Chuckle, Tinkle and Sponge. My parents call me a sponge because I go round their house and eat all their food. It makes me laugh. That is when I'm not stuffing my face.
Taramasalata when said in Geordie.

I always use Razzle when referencing porn mags in scripts. That or 'Jugs' but I don't know if that is a real porn mag or just a generic TV/film one.
I was thinking that it's interesting that when people get reasonably good at writing comedy, they instinctively know what words sound funnier or roll off the tongue in a funnier way. Like how 'Razzle' is funnier than 'Playboy' or 'Penthouse'.
Question is - is there such a thing as numbers that sound funnier than others?
I read somewhere that words with hard "k's" and "p's" in them are inherently funny for some reason.
Ah - found it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inherently_funny_word
