"Right. I'm going for a shit and a choc ice." God, that made me lol.
By the way, was the fireman played by an old Hollyoaks actor? He seemed familiar.

According to another forum yes it is. Someone called Dan Hunter.
I'm really enjoying this. Normally I don't particularly like things full of misunderstandings but this wins me over with good characters and funny dialogue. I'm also really impressed by Duncan Fromblue.
Quote: Aaron @ January 17 2009, 12:46 AM GMTBut is she better as the not-a-lesbian rapist military girl in Peep Show?
Thank god! That's been driving me crazy!
Quote: Griff @ January 17 2009, 12:44 PM GMTThose of us going along to Recorded For Training Purposes have also been enjoying Ingrid Oliver's fine work. She's a very funny actress.
What is this show and what channel will it be on?

I guess I could have said trying searching this site but whatever.
Thanks for the info. Does anybody remember Teenage Health Freak? This show has a similar feel to it I think. You could see it going out early evening on Channel 4 in the nineties.
Friday's episode just gone (episode two) was excellent I thought. It's the thing that's made me laugh the most this week. Agree with everything said above. The fantasy sequences are great fun. Duncan from Blue does a good job sending himself up, and as for the one with Sophie Winkleman in a leotard... actually I'll keep what I was going to say to myself.
I would like to thank the writers for putting a number of attractive female characters into every episode. For example, Lisa Snowdon is in episode four. Yes, I'm shallow.

And don't forget the attractive regulars like Miranda Raison, Ingrid Oliver and Ruth Bradley.
I don't think Rob should end up with his best mate as she's only 21 I think!!!!!
Also the cast look like they're having a good time, when Miranda Raison was watching Duncan dancing with the guy in the hospital she looked like she wanted to laugh.
Terrible again, so bad it's good viewing.
I've never seen a more punchable face than the main character's.
Ended last week with him feeling his balls, started this week with him feeling his balls. When does a mouthfull of tea on testicles make you limp?
Also some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard - "I don't give a f**k, seriously, a f**k I am unable to give, have you got a spare f**k on you Rob?" - brillaint.
Duncan James not funny - who'd have thought it.
Amount of swearing is pathetic. If you're having to put that in to disguise how crap the lines are just don't bother.

That's a shame; that's one bit I particularly liked.

I think he's surprisingly good. I'm not saying he has a career as an actor ahead of him, but he is pretty credible in this.
As himself...

Really? I thought it was good but one man's meat is another man's poison. The IT Crowd leaves me cold but all my friends love it.
And Duncan James has been one of the best things about this show along with Daniel Mays and Ingrid Oliver.

Utterly agreed.

I like The IT Crowd.
It just tries too hard for me, too much swearing really gets on my nerves. Can't stand comedies that have an over-reliance on it. If they stopped Rob swearing and actually made his character a bit more three-dimensional then that would be a start. At the moment I'm watching and thinking - "well no wonder she left you, all you do is moan." Which I'm sure is not the intention of the writers. There's nothing likeable about him at all, he just bitches and moans his way from one scene to the next. That's fine and it's quite good that the main character isn't coming out with wise-cracks left, right and centre but there has to be something that makes you empathise with him. At the moment he is just getting embarrassed weekly and saying f**k a lot and that seems like its going to be the formula for the next three weeks.
Regarding the dialogue, it doesn't flow naturally and the whole f**k bit at the start just made me cringe. It's the same in songs, when a swearword doesn't need to be there except for the misguided view of the writer that swearing is funny and cool in any context. Just comes over as lazy.
As for Duncan, I just think he comes over as he always has. He's supposed to be sending himself up but I don't see a difference between his character and the publicity hungry ex-boy-band member he is in real life. It's almost like he's thinking all I have to do is sing about me being a twat and everyone will see the real me. If he was genuinely evil in the show and plotting Rob's downfall then it might have been a good role.
The less said about Nigel Harman the better.
Anyway...
I thought the ending was really good in this one. I always thought the panda face was going to have some racial pay-off but Nigel Harman dressed as a Zulu was genius. Probably a bit slow to get going in this episode though. Decent sitcom though.

It's very interesting reading people's opinions about this show as I personally think it's great.
With regards to the quote about Duncan above, he is doing what the script says and I think he is doing it very well indeed.
I have never seen him as a publicity hungry ex-boybander, instead as someone who is trying to make something out of his career.
And I think well done to him for being so versatile....!!
I think Plus One is a fresh and funny show that is showing a new side to celebrity culture and taking the mickey out of it.
Well done Channel 4 for getting a comedy right in my eyes....just read the reviews and you will see it is on whole a very good series.
