It took me forever to decide.

For my own vote (just one like everyone else), I found a couple of the categories incredibly easy to pick (especially my hates). But, yeah, in a couple of places it was heart-destroying having to leave a favourite out in favour of two others.
Anyway, pay attention everyone...
Voting closes early(ish) on Friday so vote now if you haven't already!
The winners will be announced soon after, probably on the Sunday.
The lists were too long. You should have used your initiative and thin out the number of shows more. I'm sure there were quite a few that recieved no votes whatsoever.
Maybe next time have a shortlist of 10 for each section with an 'Other' option.
At this moment I haven't completed the form because it was too difficult to decide and because I hadn't seen all the shows. It just feels a bit weird picking one above another when I've not made a true comparison.

I did not have a problem with that in the best categories, but it was certainly an issue on the worst categories – who knows what horrors I have missed??
I also found it difficult to judge one-offs against series, perhaps next time round it might be best to have separate categories for Best Pilot and Best Special, which would also make the lists for the individual categories more manageable.
Quote: Griff @ January 15 2009, 11:07 AM GMTI disagree completely. It was great the fact that they listed so many shows. It's so easy to forget some show you've enjoyed. It really pisses me off when nearly every other online survey for "Greatest Whatever" only gives you a choice of four pre-selected ones, it makes the whole exercise pointless.
Fair point. How about a complete list somewhere else on the website which we can refer to, and a blank application form in which we write our answers using actual words.

Blimey, I found nothing easy! Even the hates were excruciatingly difficult.

Which then shows the bias of the site's editors and negates the worth of the survey.

I agree. I only voted a couple of nights ago because I hadn't seen the latest series of Peep Show yet (obviously I now have, and consider it to be the best of all 5), but was still shocked to see the number of shows I'd missed completely. I would have liked to have seen - and heard - everything.

Yeah as Griff and Aaron say, a shortlist wouldn't be fair. Trust me, I was very tempted to only let people pick from my personal favourites!
The list is a little un-wieldy and, of course, some of those shows have no hope of winning (there will indeed be some that register no votes). If it's anything like last year, terrestial shows will beat some better digital shows just because more people have seen them too.
However, I think the way we've done it is the fairest you can get. I'd like the British Comedy Guide Awards to become known as the awards which are 100% picked by comedy fans (as opposed to the British Comedy Awards with Jonathan Ross, which are picked by a small, often politically influenced, panel)
Quote: Griff @ January 15 2009, 5:39 PM GMTHow many people voted in the BCG Awards last year Mark?
It was a fair few, I'm not sure of the exact figure. Some guy called Robert Mugabe broke the rules by voted quite a few times actually!
This year we're not going to have quite so many votes I don't think, mainly because we don't have the newsletter or other such things to remind people to come onto the website and vote.
Thousands.

Thanks to everyone who voted - every vote really did count, the main sitcom category was very, very close (so close I had to do a double re-count).

"Why are we waiting? Why are we waiting? Oh, why are we waiting? Oh why, why, why?"
Hm. I didn't call any of the main ones right. I'm sort of surprised and not surprised at the same time that Inbetweeners managed to beat both Moving Wallpaper and No Heroics. If that makes any shit of sense.
