2006 World Para Olympics Boxing Final

Announcer
In the red corner, we have Robert “Electric Chair” Chapman.

Commentator
He got to the final with hard work and determination. The dark horse and surprise package of this competition. Has been wheelchair bound since the age of 8 due to a fall from a horse.

(Robert spins around in his wheelchair in the centre of the ring to the crowd’s cheers and applause. Looks like Stephen Hawking)

Announcer
In the blue corner, “Mad Pulverizer” Micky Razor from the Bronks.

Commentator
He was professional WBC champion until last year’s firework disaster in New York, and is now registered deaf.
(Tyson lookalike walks to the centre of the ring and stares at Robert menacingly)

Announcer
Round 1. (Ding ding)

(Camera points from behind Robert’s head. His head rattles back and forth as it is pummelled. Blood spurts everywhere. Mad Micky rolls his fists like he’s hitting a punchball. Robert is just taking the
pummelling).

Commentator
Robert is taking an almighty pummelling but he won’t go down! Robert, don’t be brave, go down! Go down!

Funny or just plain cruel???

I'm going to go right ahead and say funny. And not just because I hate people in wheelchairs.

Cruel but i confess to laughing ! It's a great theme - i.e. a deaf or quite able disabled person qualifying for such events. You'd probably cause less offence if it was say the 100m freestyle with 9 one legged contestants and one Thorpe esque deaf swimmer.

Very funny. Liked it a lot.

Very funny... I would like too see the STANA STAIR lift coming up in the rings background to take the boxer to the dressing room... very visual... not that i'm into people beating up people in wheelchairs.. but they have the right to box if they want to...

Reiss is definitely onto something with the stair lift.

Yeah, again I think its a cheap gag. How easy (and heartless) is it to take the mickey out of disabled people?

Well that's true, if it's done in the purely playground sense. When it's taken to this kind of level it becomes absurd though, at which point I think it becomes acceptable. Also, there's a lot of fun to be had when something is that inappropriate. It's why men shouting at young children is to funny. It's just not on.

Although full of irony, I don't think it allows for any real critique as it comes across as one of those love it/hate it 'Family Guy' sketches.

I was disappointed by the swimming trials for people in electric wheelchairs. Too many short circuits.

I like the stana stairlift lift idea with Chapman taking ages to get to the ring and just winding up "razor" into a frenzy. I hope it's obvious that I have nothing against the wheelchair bound (some of my best friends are numpties), my wife is even dyslexic.
It is just a silly sketch.
Thanks for the feedback guys I would love some more.

Have you been watching me?

I liked it too actually. I'm all for equality!

Busted!! Sorry David yes I have, I'm also to blame for leaving those werthers originals just out of reach.
I feel a rename coming on David "electric chair" Chapman?

I'm Chavid now by the way!

Not enough beyond laughing at disability to properly crit as a piece of writing IMO
