Silly baby names

Just read on Wikipedia (yes, yes I know) that Charlotte Church had named her son Rocco Montgomery Burns Henson.

It has now in fact been changed to Dexter Lloyd Henson which is still pretty silly. Can anyone better these?

Those parents who called their kid Adolf Hitler?

And no I don't mean 1930s Mr and Mrs Hitler.

Yeah, they win.

What about that couple who named their daughter Ikea?

In one country it's illegal to give a child a name they can be teased for!

Almost any celebrity's child in the past decade, with honourable mentions in the past few (e.g. Zowie Bowie).

All these celebs who give their kids weird names is to my mind nothing short of bizarre.

Indeed as a matter of fact I was mentioning this very phenomenon to my own son only this weekend.

Mango Chutney, I said to him, it's just so daft and take it from me lad, the parents won't be thanked for it in 10 years.

Celebs probably choose unusual baby names as an expression of exclusivity or declaration of uniqueness one would associate with those from the performing arts.
Conversely, congratulations must be offered to the Osbournes for selecting "normal" names for Kelly and Jack. (Unless they have ridiculous other names.)

It's all a matter of taste really. Some people didn't like the baby names I chose, but it's not really any of their business - and most people have warmed to my choice now anyway. Personally I can't understand why anyone chooses names that nearly every other baby is called.

I agree. I liked it when some celeb named her child Apple. Yes I did! I like apples.

It's up to the parents yes but I wouldn't want my child picked on because of a ridiculous name.

It never did that boy called Sue any harm.

'Sue any harm' what a ridiculous name.

But 'normal' names can become ridiculous because of a new association. Look at the Victorian/Edwardian prevalance of names like Fanny and Dick :D

Children can get picked on for anything. Bullies tend to sniff out those with armour chinks of low self-esteem. Building a child's confidence and installing a sense of pride in what makes them indivdual (including their name) can prevent their susceptability to being picked on.

Saying that I haven't chosen names that are ridiculous - just not that common any more. :)

Also, make sure they go to school with a knife so they can stab the bullies.
