I think they prefer spears and scalping.

Boom boom.

No, if I remember rightly, there are - or were - hundreds of different tribes, if not thousands. How many might have been wiped out by settlers, I don't know. I'm sure that Dr Mato can enlighten us though. :)

I think there are primary tribes - but there are sub tribes that branch of them so I think if you count them all it's thousands, I could be wrong though...

Mato - answer us!!!

Lakota

They make a great pain relief cream!

Quote: chipolata @ January 12 2009, 12:42 PM GMT

How many different tribes are there?

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be mistaken) Lakota are part of a larger group of natives who all speak the same Sioux language. That's what I remember from high school anyways.
As for the amount of different tribes there are a lot! Sioux is one of the larger ones. I remember there being a lot just in the Sioux group alone. They had some of the coolest warriors though like Sitting Bull.
Here is a list of what Canada recognizes as Aboriginal. Please ignore the very ignorant name of the department.
The furthest thing they recognize are the Métis. The ones who are half Native, half white.

Why's the department name 'ignorant'?

I never understood why throwing shoes in trees was something to brag about. In my eyes, very sad to see nature trashed up with boots and shoes. Teary

In the spirit of your not-so-subtle jabs at most of the things I post, what if I were to turn the tables and say that I find it very sad that Native Americans trashed up beautiful natural settings with their crude pictographs (graffiti)?

Perhaps the desire to say "I was here" is a universal one?

Robyn got lots of biology homework, from the teacher whose lesson she didn't even have today. Unimpressed Aaaand new warm boots so I don't freeze in Berlin! And yes, my old ones I can now chuck out will be recycled. :)

Not thrown into a tree?

Nope! With how terrible my throwing is, I'd probably miss about 20 times before actually managing to get them up there, anyway!

And get yourself in the face.

No not the same.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictogram

I do find it very sad to see trees with shoes. Not a jab, a fact.

No not the same.

Painting on a rock is painting on a rock. Doesn't matter if it's a sketch of an elk or "Tommy was here 2006" because it's still a defacement of nature.

I see nothing wrong woth ancient pictogram. However shoes in trees make me SAD!

Graffiti is not a pretty site either.

Status = happy. My Lakota curse was lifted today and as a result my penis has reappeared. Unfortunatly it was on somebody else. Still I 'aint seen Sam the Pig Skinner so happy for ages and in fairness I wasn't getting much use out of it.

Robyn is on birthday brownie duty, and feels a bit stressy.

Aw, thanks, Scatters. But you needn't.
