You could argue that, and you'd be wrong. It hasn't ended their career at all.

Agreed. Their 'comeback' song Not Ready to Make Nice is one of their best.

Out of interest, do you think Natalie Maines was right in saying the anti-Bush statement?(which has arguably ended their career).

I definitely think she was right. :)

I even took it back with me on the ferry!

I don't know much about country music but I do believe that's called theft :P

Blimey! That would be Lubbock, Texas, if I'm not much mistaken. Out of interest, do you think Natalie Maines was right in saying the anti-Bush statement?(which has arguably ended their career).

Yeah I agreed 100% with her.

I don't think it has, but some people do - Country Radio for one. I don't like them personally (they're like Toby Keith's female counterparts), but I like some of their music. "There's Your Trouble" is a particular favourite.

I grew up with country too but I hate Brooks and Dunn country. I'm not sure you can even call it country. It's the retarded bastard child that ran off and became more famous than its parents.

Wow! :O Ronnie Dunn has the best voice in Country right now. Whoever can perform tracks like "Believe", and "She Likes to Get Out of Town" on the same album are all right by me. Ronnie and Kix are great - although I know they're more Country Rock. George Strait is one of my favourites. I think it's great that he's had more Number 1 singles than any other artist in the world. It goes to show that there are still masses of people who who have good taste. Cool

I loved that "Jackson" video Dabutt linked with Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood. As Keith Barrat would say, "It's a bit of fun!"

Whilst not a major authority on country music, I do like the vast majority of what I've heard over the past 35 years. Going to hunt down more from the artists I haven't previously heard whose clips have been posted here - I like just about everything I've seen. Brings back memories of being a kid and hearing my old fella play Kenny Rogers just about every night, especially this classic:

Surprised Steve Earle hasn't had a mention though? I've been a big fan since Guitar Town was released and love his diversity, song-writing skills and just the whole life-story of a fascinating character. Some clips here:

Thanks for the Steve Earl links, Mick. I haven't heard an awful lot before that ("Six Days on the Road" made me notice him) but he obviously does some good Country Rock.

He does a nice mix of Country Rock, political type music, folky/bluegrass type stuff and nice mellow acoustic material too. He was more rocky in his early days but still knows how to crank the volume up on the odd track. A genuine legend in my eyes.

I haven't read all the other post on here so apologies if this' been done before but this should appeal across genres ! . . . .

I loved that track when I first heard it! You know when you put a CD away and forget about a particular song for a while, and then revisit it? Great song. This was the title track for the same album:

It was a Country Number 1 for nine weeks, I think.

I like a bit of folk music. I'm a big fan of Irish singer Christy Moore, anyone else heard/like him.

Country is even less bearable than Trad Jazz, which is on a par with Chinese water torture. IMHO. :)

Trad is fine, whereas most modern jazz that sounds like a fire in a cats home.

Christy Moore has a voice like Bailey's Irish Cream, but he I am a little uncomfortable with his politics. There is a bit of the Fenian about him.

Yes, but he has in recent years stopped singing political songs.

Gram Parsons is good; and Ryan Adams. Though I suppose Adams is more rock than country really.

:O I've just discovered that I like country. :O
I had no idea CCR were in their own category of Country called "Cosmic American".
I love CCR....damn. I bet a lot of my friends would be horrified to know CCR was considered Country.
