20 Year old Question

Hello:

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I have a 20+ year old question that has been nagging me and I need some help.

I believe this would fall under the one plot category since I don't think they made a series out of it.

I was stationed in Kaiserslautern Germany between 1986 and 1989. I was invited through the local USO to a German family for Christmas.

One of the shows on the local TV was a British comedy skit that I still today crack up thinking about it but I have not been able to locate it.

It was about a lady who was hoisting a dinner for tablemates that were all dead. The only living people in this skit was the lady and a butler. The butler had to play act the various people who were at the table.

I believe the butler had to drink a toast for each imaginary person at the table and by the end of the skit. he was quite drunk.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

I have heard of this before but for the love of me I can't remember where.

What I DO remember, though (and the details may be sketchy) but it was a sketch from a British TV show that either didn't air here for whatever reason or nobody has really seen. Anyway, it aired in Germany and the Germans went nuts for it and it's repeated every year or something as a kind of tradition. The stars of it are huge over there.

So I doubt anyone here will remember it (unless they've read about it where I did)

If I remember where I read about it, I'll post more coherent details.

Hope that ramble was some help.

Aha!

It sounds a bit like an episode of Red Dwarf, where we first meet Kryten. But it doesn't match your description fully.

That's what I initally thought too. It was almost exactly 20 years ago too. But I'm not quite sure it fully fits the description.

Hello Hondo!

It's Dinner for One.

In Germany it's traditionally watched on New Year's Eve.

:)

Edit: Ah, Glaikit had posted it already. Sorry, overread that. :)

Sounds like Red Dwarf's been copying. Without going and having a look, IIRC, Dinner For One was 1963?

Hello:

Dinner For One is the show.

Come to think of it, I believe it was New Year's Eve when I went to the German family.

Thank You very much. You have answered a question that has been bugging me for a long time.

I'm now going to add it to my ritual on New Year's Eve and I have this board to thank.

Thank You once again.

Hondo
