Yeah Jellyfish - the Spilt Milk album is mind-blowing. Astounding musicians and a really eclectic mix of tracks. They're a sort of mixture of Queen, Beach Boys and Status Quo, with a heavy sprinkling of psychedelia if you can imagine such a strange beast. But at the heart is just great, amazingly-crafted songs. Andy Sturmer the lead singer nowe lives in Japan where he writes all the music for Japanese kids shows like Puffi Amiyumi.

Giants are good also but a little too out-there for my tastes.

Only problem with Jellyfish is they only had two albums out.

I might get their albums when I've got a bit more money.

But first I need to set up the spell-checker on this sodding laptop . . .

Brilliant band.

Indeed, but oddly normal

The first album is reissued/remastered in Feb with extra tracks, etc.

I have had both on CD for ages now, still even got the vinyls too. The second - Heavy Petting - is one of my favourite all time albums

I'm never sure about these reissues with "extra tracks" 'cos for me they spoil the essence of the album. I'd be all for the extras but on a different disc.

I prefer the more acoustic first album.

In which case you might want 'Halcyon Days', released last year with a load of unreleased stuff and 3 newly-recorded songs in the acoustic style of the first album.

Never spotted that one. I'll look it up. Cheers.

Something in a similar mould to Kip of the Serenes was Tir Na Nog's eponymous first album. Very acoustic and same sort of atmosphere.

Ahhhh! When I were a lad......

Have a look through my CD collection on the shelf there, Gav Bear. Wear the special touching of Roos stuff gloves.

McFly covered one of their tracks, 'Baby's Coming Back' which is ace.

I've been looking to get into a lot of the early US college rock and indie - Let's Active, They Might Be Giants etc - so you'd recommend Jellyfiah then Lee?

Get Weezer then, they're in that ilk aren't they? Weezer rule. First two albums especially.

Some of the Aphex Twin's stuff is boom, boom, boom, boom (especially under his Polygon Window moniker) but the guy's a f**king genius so it's ok.

The first album is my favourite album of all time.
