I was kinda let down with Redemption. Like the Mexican bit in Season 3, whenever you take Jack out of his natural habbitat

I actually liked the Mexican bit in Season 3. And I think that was probably my favourite season, although I do love the one with the slimy president.

Back on topic, 'country music' label encompasses a diverse range of artists and styles: The Carter Family, Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Flatts and Scruggs, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Eagles, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Nanci Griffiths, The Jayhawks, Iris De Ment, Alison Krauss, Lambchop, The Be Good Tanyas, Tim McGraw, Calexico, Andre Williams etc etc - all with merit. As a general rule the best of any genre is worth listening to. Of course there is also a lot of dross and much of the Nashville product is just soft rock in a stetson, but the roots and alternative country scenes have been incredibly productive over the last couple of decades.

I particularly like the track 'I know ya my sister but I got a hard on'.

I am so unsurprised.

I suppose you could lump Alabama 3 (of Sopranos theme tune fame) into that diverse mix.

I remember Tony Hawks includes a funny section in his book One Hit Wonderland on Country Music and the bizarre titles some of the songs have. I'll have to dig that out and read it again.

This post would have been better if I could remember some examples! :D

I loved that book! I found it on a book shelf in a cottage we were renting in Ireland and I just couldn't put it down all week. I even took it back with me on the ferry!

I wrote an Amazon review of it a month ago. Here it is, written under my full name David Jones and the title "It's a Hit with Me":

Ace. It is a good book; not quite as good as Round Ireland With A Fridge, but still a great read.

The Amazon listing does contain the name of his own country music single:
You Broke My Heart Like a Bird's Egg (But Now the Yolk's On You). :D

The main girl from Dixie Chicks is from my home town!

Blimey! That would be Lubbock, Texas, if I'm not much mistaken. Out of interest, do you think Natalie Maines was right in saying the anti-Bush statement?(which has arguably ended their career).

which has arguably ended their career.

You could argue that, and you'd be wrong. It hasn't ended their career at all.

I like country, but only classic old stuff like this:

George Jones, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, etc.

I also love so-called alternative county artists like The Geraldine Fibbers, Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Son Volt, etc.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on country too. I grew up with country too but I hate Brooks and Dunn country. I'm not sure you can even call it country. It's the retarded bastard child that ran off and became more famous than its parents.

Outlaw country and weirdo country are fun, too.

I like Lee Hazlewood. This video is classic.
