So, what we basically have here, then, I guess, is a Doctor for the Mighty Boosh generation.
Can't say I was particularly pleased at such a young actor being cast, but good luck to the chap all the same. I have no opinion other than that as I've never actually seen him in anything.
However, in order to redress the balance, I do think they should have a much older companion, maybe in a moblity scooter.

Really? Just because of the actor chosen; who most I imagine have no real prior knowledge of? Is everyone forgetting that the man behind his casting and the head writer for next series is Moffatt, someone who has done no wrong so far regarding new Who? I would have preferred an older chap, but I'm willing to give Moffatt the benefit of the doubt, because he hasn't let the show down yet.

He's only a few years younger than Peter Davison was.

Me too. I imagine the change from seven years of mad Baker to him must have been quite startling to viewers at the time.
I remember at the time it was a major screw, it took me months to forgive him not being shouty crackers Doctor.
If the new guy is good and with Moffatt he'll be cool.
I think the smily jolly Doctor thing has run it's course and a real change is needed.

I'd like a darker, more dangerous Doctor; whether they would be able to really do that on a Saturday night family show now is another matter.

From the bits they showed on Confidential I think he looks like a good actor capable of a range of roles. I really think he'll do well, despite initial reaction by a lot of people which is a tad unfair seeing as he hasn't even received a bloomin script yet!

CE was a quite a lot like that.
Which was why it was damned accidentally funny, when they wrote in all the nice bits.

I'm not surprised he buggered off. When he did the Dr as a dark character he was great.

Just don't do what they did with Sylvester McCoy; light brown coat = good dr, dark brown=sinister dr.
