Doctor Who... Page 266

I am saying nothing more.

:)

Why won't David Hasslehoff order duck in a restaurant?

They always say Duck Hoff?

Because he goosed the waitress?

Beacause he always plums for the sauce, but they know he was pawn crackers.

Even in Newcastle Chinese restuarants he's hoi sin the sauce.

Well. Maybe I just meant Godot. You are quite grumpy on here aren't you? Dunno. Wasn't even supposed to be a slight!

I'm not grumpy. I occasionally tilt at c**ts - but always in a jolly manner.

You grew up with Who when it was at its most shit - 2nd season of Nathan Turner's on - which is perhaps one of the reasons you're able to stomach it now - or more accurately, enjoy it.

I grew up with Who during the end of the Barry Letts, start of the Phil Hinchcliffe era, which is one of the show's golden periods - some would say most golden. Even the first series under Graham Williams was good because most of the scripts had been put in place by Hinchcliffe. I've only seen 60% of Russell's Who but very little has impressed me. I was impressed by the original Dalek story and the concept of the Dalek prison but not much else.

And the f**king up of the Cybermen's costumes reminded me of how they f**ked up the H R Geiger's Alien by giving it dinosaur feet in the final movie instead of the human feet and toenails that it originally had, which were far more disturbing.

Godot I do doff my cap to your scarily encyclopedic knowledge of all things cultural.

You're like the love child of Rabb C Nesbitt and Melvyn Bragg (meant as a compliment).

Dr Who's has been wildly uneven over the years and that's part of it's charms.

The original season with a dotty, at times quite malicious Dr mixed with argumentative assisstants and some really strange stories was surprisingly cool. It was in many ways more sophisiticated than the modern one.

Nathan Turner though really seemed to almost dislike the show.

I've just got round to watching the 11th Doctor Confidential episode and I think this chap has the potential to be very good. I rmember seeing him in Party Animals and he was good in that. He certainly has a bit of something.

At least it isn't that Matt Smith off ITV's football coverage - his acting credentials aren't as good.

Cheers Sooty. I do like a bit of culture with with my cornflakes and machine gun.

It's interesting to see that RTD has made almost the same mistakes as JNT.

Laughing out loud Sooty, if that's a compliment, then your world just gets stranger and stranger.

Thing with RTD when he's firing on all cylinders her's very good and often that's the most simple stories.

Turn Left and Blink are astonishing TV that could hold their own in almost any area of TV.

It's precisely because they are so good, that the high concept low intelligence ones really grate.

And the Cybermen infuriate me, because they're so cheap.

The BBC doing FX that are inferior to STNG 10-15 years ago, just looks embarrassing.

I seem to recall that Turn Left was quite wank.

Jolly? Occasionally?! And you consistently have a go at me (and to be fair, me at you), so I shall proudly label myself a c**t! :D

I would say that everyone's favourite era of Who is the one they grew up with; or at least the era they hold in fondest regard; but every era has been pretty inconsistent really, with plenty of glorious stinkers.

Messing up the Cybermen has pissed me off too. I have read Moffatt basically saying, in a gentler way, the same thing, but that he knows the creepy, scary Cybermen are still out there. Hopefully when he brings them back, that's the ones we'll get; though they'll need a redesign. Less toy, more horror. Though I suppose you can't really go too far with a family show.

And Blink was by Moffat.

The primitive cybermen in the Christmas special were rather good.

Yup. By god, I wish we could skip past these few specials and just get straight to his series. If we just end up with Christmas special type things, which I think we will, then this years run is going to be a bit of a drag.
