Country Music - Any fans here?

I'm a fan of Country music. Is anyone else?

I would've laughed in your face not so long ago.

Absolutely hated CM and everyone who liked it (except some members of my family, stupid hicks :P) And whilst I still hate the pop side of it (Garth Brooks) I can see the soul side of singers such as Patsy Cline and err the rest?

But no, I'm not a fan. So pointless me answering really, sorry.

I hate it. With a passion. Sorry Dave.
Horrid.

Give me blues, rock, jazz, opera, classical, soul or anything.
Anything but C**try

I never used to like it either really. I thought it was all, you know, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. But then I heard the modern traditional stuff and the poppier stuff like Shania Twain and now love it. It is a bit of a minority interest, though.

Massive in America. HUGE!
I would never take the piss out of someone who likes country.
I just cant get to grips with it.

Music taste is so very personal.

no

Gram Parsons is really good. And I like a few of the more modern alt-country bands and singers, like Ryan Adams.

what country are you talking about? I like Gogol bordello who are gypsy punks and Terrafolk from Slovenia!

I'm taking about American Country Music i.e New Country, Traditional Country etc

Country & Western?

I'm a massive country rock/ americana/ alt new country fan (whatever you like to call it). Check out Jayhawks - Hollywood Town Hall/ Rainy Day Music. Or Steve Earle. Shania Twain is not worthy to drink their piss ! She is fit mind.

I thought maybe you were.

There are odd things I like and it does cross over into rock a lot - the Band for instance - and of course you can't ignore Shania - nothing to do with looks or anything.

I'm a big Elvis Costello fan from day 1 (almost) and when he did Almost Blue (1980?) he got slagged off a lot but it was genuine. That's the main thing I think.

However some of his more recent Americana stuff leaves me cold.

Country & Western?

They stopped calling it Country and Western 20-30 years ago as that kinda means the same thing. It's just called Country.

I like Country music that is played far far far far far out in the country. Thats ok. I like it then.

I'm not a fan... but it's partly to do with the whole 'style over substance' thing that's currently so popular in just about every facet of the entertainment field. Not that I like the trad stuff much either... but some of the old Willie Nelson/Johnny Cash tracks are heartfelt and undeniably moving.

My brother lives in San Antonio in Texas... working there as a keyboard player, and he gets to play with a lot of bands (no-one famous or anything) that favour a more traditional approach. He says this is still very popular but, as you might expect, appeals more to an older audience. If I had to choose, I’d go for the older material but it still leaves me feeling a little cold. Could that be down to C&W being American 'folk', which is harder for us Brits to relate to, I wonder?

Like a lot of threads on this forum, it boils down to personal taste.
