I hate people who say this, well being all pedantic. How do you know I don't steal everything? Including this internet connection, which I've rigged up to my neighbours phone line :P

Hey, what's the wire going out my window...Leeeeeevil!

:D

These story seems a little too unbelievable. But if it is true then it's disgusting. Think about all the charities in this country that get no government funding at all such as the NSPCC. Angry

Hi Mark. Well there is a link to check it out for yourself. They are collecting sigs.

It does not matter wether you pay taxes or not. This is your right to stand up for or to sit down for something.

While we can still have some sort of say.

Can anyone go into a mosque?
Asking as I have no idea. It may be a great place to run and hide from the terrorists is all.

Agreed Charley, I signed it.

I tip my hat to you SlagA.

Hope others follow suit.

I received this email earlier as well, and so many things in the statement sounded so off kilter that I had assumed it to be the work of people with vested interests who wanted to stir things up a bit (like a lot of other petitions on the ridiculous No. 10 petitions site). A little bit of investigation and hey presto: http://www.london.gov.uk/view_press_release.jsp?releaseid=11471
I'm no apologist for Ken but I believe what he says here 100%. As well as the BNP encouraging people to sign up (and they are, I've checked their website), other Christian faith groups are doing the same.

The facts are:
There are proposals for a megamosque.
It would need to get planning permission from the council.
There is no prospect of planning permission being sought in the near future.
If it gets planning permission it will be funded by Islamic benefactors, and not public money.

If all these things happen, I've got no problem with it. Just as if any Christian wants to build a megachurch with their own money and it satisfies planning permissions then I have no problem with that either.

But I do have a problem with the No. 10 e-petitions site.

Badge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I know. Don't tell anyone I'm here though - I'm supposed to have retired. Though I did slip in a couple of pissed-up comments in the last few days.

I just couldn't leave this one because there's a lot of misinformation spread by e-petitioners, and you never really know their motives.

well it's good to have you back, you raise some good points.

But I am pretty ignorant towards anything political.

People say, you should vote, people died so you can vote. I say fair enough, but if I do all the things people died for I wouldn't get anything done.

I am a leecher on society, I do stuff for me, I only think about me, so I ignore anything political that doesn't effect me personally.

So I'll choose to not sign this petition, at this time.

I care about me, my friends and family and that's it.

I'm ignorant, I know, but f**k it.

Rolling eyes

If this is true then fair enough. But I see no reason why tax-payers should have to fund it.

Laughing out loud But its not true thats the point David. Hey Badge its good to have the voice of reason back if only for a guest appearence.

But Ken himself says , if you read his statement, there are no proposals for a mosque of that SIZE. That is an ambiguous and carefully phrased statement.

If they want to build a mosque then be it at their own expense, ditto churches and temples. That's the reason why I signed it. I signed it not for intolerance of a minority, not for BNP or religious affiliations, but simply that I want the government to know that any funding of religious or political projects with public money won't be popular.
:P

Here in Spain many of the Christian churches were once mosques (pretty blue domed roofs, still in almost every town). Then, so the story goes, along came Ferdinand & Isabella who changed things around a bit. About time the world stopped fussing over religious differences I think. How about a nice cheap solution ... paint St Paul's roof blue and leave it like that for a couple of years, then paint it white again for the next couple, and so on. Share and make everyone happy (although I won't hold my breath!)

I would love a world where we could just be ourselves and let others be. Is there a government petition I could sign to make it happen?
:D
