Gervais - what a complete c*nt. Page 9

Erm! Sorry Zoo. I honestly believe given the chance, I would bounce up & down him for a bit.

Okay, I lied. Just one tiny question.
I'm sure you've said that you're a fan of Curb. And doesn't Larry David do all these things too?

He does use the uncomfortable humour yes, but with Larry David and Curb it's not always at the expense of a minority, a lot of the time it's Larry's little habits he has for example him not being able to have a crap unless it's his own toilet so he leaves a dinner party. The bits where he does use the minorites sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but at least with David you know if you don't like that aspect there will be more different stuff you do like.

F*cking hell! Aren't we analysing this a bit too much/

Obviously millions of people love him so get over it!

The guy made me laugh until cola leaked out of my nose. Still does whenever I listen/see his stuff.
It gives me hope that an ugly git like him can make it.

Hello Aliospalio welcome to the BSG. We're you drinking Coke at the time or is this some sort of Derren Brownian magic trick :)

Difference with Curb is that Larry is upfront and open about his prejudices. David Brent and Andy Milmum aren't, they hide behind a veil of ignorance (that sounded clever for a change, better dumb it down). In essence Larry is Rubber Gervais is glue (phew hope that confuses them).

Back to the original thread, Everything he touched turned to Gold so ofcourse we were all waiting for him to fall flat on his feet.

Jim Shelley the Mirror's TV critic wrote an article today (in the Guardian for some reason) about how Gervais has turned from a golden boy most people loved into a 'tiresome embarrassment'. Thought it would be of interest...

p.s. Just a reminder to everyone: you're all right! He's both funny and not funny. Personal opinion dictates that.

The Guardian?

I think I'll give that a miss then!

Well Jim Shelley in that article calls Larry David overrated, so it's hard to take him seriously but he makes a few fair points.

He was at it again during The Concert for Diana, where the sight of Gervais dying on his feet confirmed his demise. Having been introduced by, you've guessed it, Ben Stiller, Gervais performed the never-knowingly-funny Brent number Free Love On the Free Love Freeway, before making a gag about global warming we've all made: "at least we're going to have brilliant summers from now on". Asked to wing it until Elton John was ready, the acclaimed stand-up floundered.

His appearance at Saturday's Live Earth concert only compounded his humiliation. He opened with a lame remark about the show's eco-conscious stars flying in by private jet - an irony already commented on by that acclaimed comic genius Simon Le Bon. Then it was a case of he doth protest too much, as he insisted he'd done Live Earth as a favour to Spinal Tap creators "Christopher" (Guest) and "Rob" (Reiner), and that he couldn't say no to the Diana concert because he'd been asked personally - by Wills and Harry.

Poor RG.

All that success and peeps are mean to him.

Leave him alone. If you dont like him. Dont watch him.
If you do, I am having a stand up night tonight.
Animals RG
Bill Hicks &
Raw Eddie Murphy.
Your all welcome around.

PS. I think my Jim Carey done a stand up DVD. Does anyone know anything about it. I want it see.

I've seen one clip of him at the comedy store, I think? I'd love to see a live show as well, try Youtubing his rubber face.

I'm quite new here and I'm a bit taken aback. The Office is a very good sitcom. If I'd written it I'd be sat on a beach in Barbados, hookers on tap, snorting cocaine through a bog roll. There'd be no Extras and I'd probably be dead. You'd have no reason to call Gervais a c**t, just a wasted genius. So if there's anything to be learnt from Gervais's phenomenal career path, it's get a bit more f**ked up and do a bit less work.
This should apply to all writers and aspiring writers accross the board (unless you've got a heart condition.)

If you do go to Barbados.... go down Sandy Lane its great no strippers or hookers though and the near by market and beach is to die for... fingers crossed for your sitcom the "Office utility room"

Welcome GedC.

Thanks for the welcome, all a bit intimidating on here. Recently saw Ricky Gervais at MEN Arena, I'd heard his stand up wasn't up to much and I'm not a big fan of those massive gigs, but he was great.
I think I'm probably suffering from beginners positivity on these threads, I'm sure a hundred posts down the line I'll be slagging everything off.
