Writing Goals for 2009 Page 2

Isn't the TV (and for me radio thing) awful?

It's just so my denser friends can go

"Hurrgh hurrgh Sootyj got a funny on the magic goggle box2

Just like everyone else I want to get something produced and I also want to write another film and TV drama ive been planning for a while.

1) Nail down a play that I have plotted over last 8 years. I reckon I'm ready now.

2) Complete two other full plays.

3) My production company has launched, so to sell out our first play 'Away Now to War' in April and direct it with smouldering panache

4) Do first open mic sketch gig - should be February - ARGHHHHHHHH

5) Get feedback from Beeb in one form or another - even an injunction would do.

6) NR and TS - become a tad more regular in appearance than I am now.

7) Make enough money to convince myself that I'm improving each year.

8) Learn as much in 2009 as I did in 2008.

9) Network like a mofo.

My goals for 2008 were;

1: Writing credit on a radio sketch show.

This one worked out nicely, I wrote for 3 radio sketch shows, and something I wrote for the year before won a Sony Radio Award that wasn't gold, but I missed a couple of open goals with sketches I really shouldn't have sent.

2: Writing credit on a TV sketch show.

This didn't work out quite as well, at one point I had something in, then out of one particular show, but I did write for a sketch show up at Edinburgh, and something further may or may not happen with that, so that's a small consolation.

3: Get something optioned, or developed.

I made absolutely no progress with scripts, but an idea I had for a TV show went into development with a production company, and pitched - but there were no takers.

My goals for 2009;

1. Write more.

Oi no showing off!

I'll start a thread for that.

Now I think about it Sootyj would like to get one gag about Gordon Brown on HIGNFY about Unsound Gordon Brown so offensive, he loses control of his bowels and is reduced to being a very smelly Shrek impersonator at Disney world.

1. Get a sketch on radio - quite possible with RfTP.
2. Get a sketch on TV - there's a chance of this happening, but it's nothing concrete.
3. Nail a decent premise for a sitcom.

Finish a novel.

Instead of just f**king starting them and getting half way through before having an irresistably 'brilliant' idea for the next one.

In 2009, I hope:

- I will not be embarrassed in the sitcom trials

- I will have sketch on TV/Radio

- A TV producer will say that they like my script and maybe, just maybe they can do something with it.

- I will Finish my blatant 'Clerks' rip off movie script.

Finish my short play soon

Get my screenplay read by somebody who I respect and they can tell me it's bollocks

Write far more sketches for NR and TS

Finish my sketch show pilot.

Start a sitcom pilot.

If we're on in the same night, we should make a pact to laugh at each other's stuff.

Sure, mine's called Lite Flyin'. What's yours so I know when to laugh?

1) At least a page of diary per day

2) Radio sitcom

3) James Bond screenplay

2008 was my best writing year yet as I actually got paid for writing for the first time.

That said, the week before Christmas I found out that my sitcom project was not going any further with the beeb, something I've been developing with them since last Christmas.

In short, I start 2009 in the same place as 2008 so want to knock out a new sitcom pilot and rehash another sitcom project early in 2009 and see if I can get them to fly this time.

I think I'm giving up on RFTP 118 etc as never seem to get anywhere with that but spend a large portion of my writing time on it. It's an easy distraction with a quick fix, in terms of getting something finished and sent off, but I need to concentrate on the things I'm better at.

Mine's Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown. It'll be the one where nobody is laughing except me and now you.

Look forward to it. :)

Wadja get paid for?

Goals...

1) Get somebody to publish my children's novel. And have that somebody not be me.

2) Crack Treason. Because not cracking it is really irritating me.

3) Get something, anything, on the radio.

4) Watch one of my NR sketches being performed.

5) Get some feedback from a prodco on my sitcom pilot.

6) Perform a stand-up set.
