I don't know if you have heard about this but Ken Livingstone is apparently planning to use tax payer's money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated £100M in the docklands, London.
Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on a new hospital or improved transport facilities, surely anything but such a scheme as this.

The mosque will apparently be BIGGER THAN ST PAUL'S.!
The plan is for the mosque to be so big that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will see it as the biggest landmark in London, bigger than St Paul's, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium.

The vote so far is 56 % in favour, as the Muslim community in the UK is casting it's vote in droves, and as usual the British are burying their heads in the sand.

It is an undemocratic use of British Tax payers money, especially when our Churches that are 100's of years old get no government funding to keep their structures standing, and we are supposedly a Christian Nation.

To vote to "Scrap the 'Mega-Mosque" please sign the official Government petition in the link below.

Please, after voting, forward this to as many people as you can.

My Opinion.
If the religious members of society require a place of worship ie.

The Buddhists a temple.
The Christians/Catholics a church/chapel
The Scientologists a lab
The Muslims a mosque.

Let those religious people pay for it.

The real injustice is that £9bn (current vast under-estimate) is being spent on the Olympics.

I don't approve. No, I don't.

I don't pay taxes anyway :P

They should get it sponsored, Coca Cola presents Mosque: for all your Muslim needs.

Perhaps if it is built some bugger will blow it up anyway...
Fx Cool

This is happening all over the country. While I have no worries about people worhipping who/what they want (I'd rather it were me), I do have issues with being too willing to support certain groups at the detriment of others.

We have a church here in Swansea which is something like five hundred years old. Ok, it's not a functioning church, and needs repair, but it is salvagealble. The council want to demolish it because

"There is a Mosque over the road and they might be offended".

Now, if you live anywhere, you live as the people there do. You live there because you want to live there. But changing things to accomodate an illusion that a certain group would or might be offended by our culture is breathtakingly stupid.

All Muslims I know are great people, who respect other religions. Any true religion is based on peace or higher purpose.

I'm not surprised they are doing that in London because frankly they fritter money away on worthless ideas all the time, while we have homelessness and murders on our streets.

If people want a place of worship, it is up to them to build and maintain it. Where's the money going for education? For Health? For a decent pension? For the basic right of people to walk down a street with a decent level of safety? Surely these are priorities, priorities which are slightly above building a Mosque 'just in case' anyone is offended by it's absence.

Yes, diversity is a good thing, but not at the expense of national identity.

Sorry, it sounds like a rant but this and many other ideas - esp the Olympics - piss me off because I've seen how people are neglected or disenfranchised these days in this country, and it makes me sick.

Mind you, perhaps the cash to build this will come from the five hundred pounds ech and every one of you will have to pay to have an ID Card.

In short, this country functions on greed and cowardice which it has the nerve to try and disguise as inclusionism.

Oh, I'm not in favour. BTW. lol

Ed - excellently put.

Charley thanks for raising this. It's shocking. In the end, the PC brigade will do the suicide-bombing for the bombers to avoid anyone from a minority having to put themselves out in killing Brits.

Isn't that a great idea for a sketch?

PC1: I'm really fed up with all this, let's bomb somewhere
PC2: Yeah, but let's do it in Mime so we don't offend anyone.

I hate people who say this, everyone pays taxes unless you buy all your goods at customs.

Erm, well personally this doesn't really bother me at all. If you are worried about the state being involved in Religion then you should be a Republican like me because the Head of the UK, the Queen, is also the head of the Church of England. I think Ken has done a good job, apart from the Camp Commandant comment. Besides all the Churches in England were built with taxes, remember the tithes? Most mosques and synagogues were funded privately so if they want to use tax payers money why should we stop them. Suppose they are going to spend it on ciappati bread and nail varnish thoughAngelic

This would be good if it weren't for the fact that Mime is deeply, deeply offensive... ;)

Yu'd have to be a bit of a bastard to tell them. Either it's in Braille or you give 'em subtitles

I hate people who say this, well being all pedantic. How do you know I don't steal everything? Including this internet connection, which I've rigged up to my neighbours phone line :P

The point is, though, surely, that while the Government claims to have no further money for the actual quality of life of people, it manages to find billions for ill thought out projects like this.

You can bet your arse one of the thieving little magpies in Numero Ten has a friend/relative/lover who runs a construction company.

You will get to keep your arse though, under current legislation.

I hate that people can be so apathetic, I think its destro.... oh who cares!
