The worst kind of smug is when people are better than you at a game or something and their smugness aggravates the hollowness and inner anger you already feel from losing all the time

I am offered asked how I would define middle class. And I invariably reply it is some who watches a lot of sitcoms, writes or attempts to write sitcoms, or joins a forum and posts messages about them.
I think it was Jean Paul Satre who gave the definition originally but my French isn;t good enough to translate it more accurately. Perhaps Aaron... ?
I think the worse kind of smugness is when the smug person actually doesn't deserve to be so smug and it just comes from their own stupidity and arrogance. For example, when someone thinks they are better than someone else because they have a better job but doesn't take into account that the other person may be there to pay for college or uni and will eventually have a better job than them or even be their boss! Or when someone assumes they are right about something all because the other person appears to them to be less intelligent.
There is nothing wrong in taking pride in what you have and what you have achieved but it's also important to remember it doesn't make you better than the person offering you fries with your happy meal!
