Bummer. It's hard to swallow being the ONLY writer on BSG who didn't get in. :(

(still seems weird that a LOT of BSG regulers got THE email, but still.)

Yes, it is not so much the rejection that hurts, as being singled out for rejection... :(

Wouldn't have minded if one or two had got "the email" and that the majority hadn't, as I don't think my sketches were shite. ;)

Still, like I said, it only makes me stronger, and thus will give rise to more polished material for radio.
It was my first stab at radio, so I'm mot too bothered.

Doesn't mean your sketches were shite at all. It depends on whether they were the right theme, tone, too similar to something they've already used, being able to open the document, etc. :)

Agreed.

Now mine WERE shite...

He's good at spotting talent. Well, he spotted me. Well done to anyone who sent into this show who's getting somewhere with it.

How or where did he spot you, Matt, if you don't mind me asking?

being able to open the document

Surely they wouldn't have discarded mine if they couldn't open the docs?

BLOODY Word 2007 with it's bloody docx format.

I sent them docx (the new Word format) coz I thought they'd keep up with any new Office versions, being the Beeb.

If it WAS because they couldn't open it, I'll be reeeeeeeeeeeeeaally forked off.... as I did say in the email "these are Word 2007 doccies, contact me if you have compat probs."

And yes, I know I SHOULD have send them in ancient doc format, but Word 2007 has a feature that you select called Compatibilty Mode which is SUPPOSED to make docx doccies compatible with earlier versions of Word.

Well I don't know if they could open them or not, and I don't know whether they would persevere trying to open a document when they have a few hundred (how many was it?) to get through. I entered a comp recently and used .docx files as part of my application and was contacted and asked to re-send them in a friendly format, after they had seen my non written application files.

Ah right.
From now on I'll send mine in both docx and doc, just in case.

I just e-mailed him some stuff earlier this year that he liked.

I did the same - very, very constructive chap - a credit to the beeb

Nothing much to add from me on the meeting. Main thing was, as the others have said, how keen everyone we we met was about new writers. Tilt is an astonishing opportunity given the amount of non-comm slots there will be on offer over the course of the series. Plus because it's partly a topical show, new writers without a big "bottom drawer" of polished sketches (which includes me) won't get squeezed out by those who are able to send in a bunch of sketches they've been polishing for months/years, which was always my fear with this kind of opportunity.

Has anyone received the second e mail ?

I got the second email today - they want me to make the sketch a bit longer and resubmit it.

If they mentioned during the meeting a sketch about downloading houses from the internet, dat's mine :D

I've got nothing yet.

Got email. Apparently they recorded one of mine last week (the fake signing-dancing one for anyone at the recording) and it might make the 2nd episode.

Yay! I'm happy! (Until someone who saw the recording pms me saying the sketch died a death, but until then, I'm happy!)
