Best bosses: men or women? Page 2

I always get on fine with female bosses, but the trick is to stand up to them. And I get on great with my all female staff. But women managing women though, that can get ugly - things tend to get personal very quickly.

It was the same guy who fell down the stairs at an executive producers leaving party and hospitalised himeslf and the unfortunate waitress at the bottom of the stairs. He's about six foot four and I can only guess at his weight.

I love that story. Who is this mighty, mighty man?

Although I guess that stretches to life. Women can often be incredibly unkind and bitchy about other women.

And very nice to their face. This can get men into alot of trouble if, upon seeing a friendly conversation between his partner and another woman, comments that she seems like a nice girl.

I think I might know who it is. ;)

Did you have to call them sir? I've always liked that military custom of calling female superiors "sir".

If I was in the military then yes. I'd heard men walk up to them salute and use 'sir' or their rank. It was always humorous seeing the low ranking young officers come in and looking nervous saluting them.
But I'm a civilian so I just called them by their titles Warrant Officer and Major. By the end though the Warrant Officer told me to just call her by her first name, Nancy....sort of an oxymoron for a soldier eh?

My worse boss ever was a woman and my best one a man. But when I am calling the shots I have found men find it hard to take instructions from me but women have no problem.

Men by far. Women (not all) have a hidden jealousy thing going on.

I find it's not so much jealously as a bizzare need to compete.

I've had a lot of bad bosses in general. One of the worst was a recently immigrated Russian woman. She used to work for the Russian military and you could tell.
First off it was a call centre job and the pay was low.
I still remember her first day she walked up to my cubicle put my customer on mute and said "dis desk is a mess you vill clean it up now or clean up all desk in call centre".
She was staring at my notes that were strewn about my cubicle because of all the passwords and notes I took from customers.
I told her if she didn't like the way it looked she could clean it up herself or stop looking at it. I then continued talking with my customer.
She was furious and tried making my life hell at that place for the entire time I was spent there.

I find it's not so much jealously as a bizzare need to compete.

My experience has been jealousy and total lack of sisterhood. I am one to want to be part of a joint support of build up verses a group of working women filled with jealousy and gossip.

I had a boss who I later discovered hadn't been the one who hired me. Head office had forced her to hire me as she had been going against company policy and hired members of her family or family friends only to work in this cafe and I was the only appilcant who was nether so she made my month working for her hell. She spread vicious gossip among the girls I worked with that I had been putting them down saying that I was above them cause I had just finish my degree so they were all, apart from one, bitchy as hell towards me and put me down over my appearance because she also told them about my condition which was cruel and I was always given the worse jobs then one day she took it to far and I called her a fat C word and walked out leaving her to serve all the customers alone.

Karma bit her and the bitchy girls on the bum though. Five times I had told her about the leaking pipe in the staff toilet and was told always to shut up. Two days after I walked out, it burst and flooded the place with poo. When someone came from head office to investigate, they discovered all my bosses health and safety breaches and fired her on the spot.

See....... my point exactly. I like being totally self employed. I am my boss and I like me just fine..faults and all. :D

All the girls ended up unpaid for a month and only two of them were hired back by the new manager. The only one who was nice to me was a pregnant girl who confided in me she hated them all and wasn't planning on comming back when she took leave.

I think it depends on whether I intend on advancing my career through sleeping with them. If so, then...woman. Seeing as it's a Thursday. ;)
