I think it is possible that anyone who has suffers a really close bereavement or has a terminal condition, might change their views from those they hold right now.
Just think about those who have the 'last rites' having never previously believed. Their reasons are no doubt varied, but at least they gain some comfort.
I don't think that everyone who believes in Heaven would not be scared of dying - aren't most people scared of dying, whatever they think might come afterwards? Isn't it the process itself, not the end result, that scares people?
I also wonder about 'non-believers' who report out of body experiences/visits from Angels when they are on operating tables or seriously ill.

I remember someone who died for a few minutes saying he rose out of his body (common story I think), but when he came round he told everyone what was on top of a tall cabinet in the room and he was right.
Trouble is with these things though, and ghosts and all, is it always just seems to be stories.
