I have 2 brothers, a son and a daughter. Let's hope my son makes lots of baby boys so that the line will continue.

Surely if either of your kids have babies the line continues. Don't get hung up on the surname thing. And quit subconsciously valuing boys over girls! We know where that leads...

Nah, I doubt it. I don't mean that, I mean the 'it's only carrying on my genes if it has the same surname as me'. Your daughter gets married, maybe has another man's name, she's still got just as many of your family's genes as your son has, and so have their kids.
Yeah, but one has to carry on the family name as well, not just the genepool.
Hell, in my case the genepool would be better off cleansed, but the name's not entirely hopeless.
