Yeah but buying a stupidly expansive graphics card isn't essential - hardcore gamers do that because they choose to. It isn't necessary.
But the main point is, if you already have a pc, even if it needs a few tweeks, why not just use it instead of paying out for a new console?

No, not really. The Apple TV is just a player. You can find others out there that are cheaper and less restrictive. Has anyone mentioned things like XBMC?

I honestly wasn't advocating buying the Apple TV DaButt. I wouldn't advocate buying much form Apple tbh.

PC game sales are plummeting, while console sales are soaring. The chances are pretty good that in the near future people will buy a console that doubles as a PC rather than the other way around.

My favorite piece of Apple hardware is my cheap Mac Mini. It sits silently in my home theater cabinet, right next to the amp. It plugs into everything over an HDMI link and serves up about 80GB of MP3s, plays DVDs, web videos, downloaded videos, streaming audio links, etc. I can control it remotely from my iMac, iPhone or PC and basically does everything an Apple TV can do and more.

It's not wireless but our second PC is plugged into my lovely new 37" full 1080p HDTV. It's great. I've got MAME on it so I've been playing Wonder Boy.

I'm in the market for one of these machines. At the moment I'm leaning towards the PS3 because it has a quirky and rather beautiful design whilst the xbox looks like someone kicked the box in on both sides. Plus the xbox symbol reminds me of a baked potato.
Some suggestions of good games would go amiss either, as I nothing about the flat earth of gaming.
Grand Theft Auto IV & Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare are very good.

Well the Xbox360 is getting so cheap you might as well buy both,
The Xbox has some ace games and more online fun. Also if you haven't owned one then Xbox is ace for HALO, about the mindlessly enjoyable game ever.
I'm thinking of getting a Wii but I am worried it'll make me gay, retarded, middle aged or all of the above.
