Just wondering what people on the board like to write other than comedy.
I like to write meaty psychological crime dramas, at the moment I am working on a revenge movie. I am also working on a Scottish historical epic (another Braveheart?).
I get a lot of inspiration from Jimmy McGovern and Paul Laverty.
I write songs and usually compose all the music for a Newcastle panto this time of year - although this year they're not doing it which is a shame, as it's always a nice diversion.
Apart from that I do my best to not write anything at all in my spare time. And yet here I am at ten to one in the morning, still tapping away like a spaz.

A panto man myself - though they're pretty twisted.
I've tried breaking out of panto mould though (whilst using similar structures) so I can get stuff on throughout the year
The occasional sci-fi short story*. I haven't written one for a little while though. I really should finish the one I was in the middle of.
* this is a VERY rough draft but I can't remember the password so I haven't updated it.
I wrote a full length horror feature a couple of years ago. Ended up more horrific than horror. Any attempt at 'serious' writing now quickly 'degenrates' into a tide of comedic effluent.
I wrote the ubiquitous novel, which currently only my wife has read [she liked it, but publishers, to date, do not share her good taste].
A screenplay that got quite high up at the beeb, with Nicholas Lyndhurst keen to do it - again nothing has come of this.
I'm also working on a vast, historical, Stephen Poliakoff-style piece which is ludicrously ambitious.
A half-finished sci-fi thriller...
Several competition pieces...
Oh, yeah - and I used to do adverts.
I just like writing drama really - it's just that quite a lot of it comes out funny.
PS I like the idea of a Panto. Our village one is written by the Director of the Am/Dram group. Puts a whole new meaning to the word 'shite'.

Does he wear a cravat and/or plale blue turtle necks and thinks of himself a cross between Frank Muir and Patrick Cargill?
I wrote my own part in the 6th form panto. The 'nice' girls wrote and organised it but I got the part of Prince Charming because I had the outfit and then insisted I wrote my own lines. I put in impressions and a comedy song and dance and some really crap surreal jokes.

I like writing horror and sci-fi. I have tried my hand at novels and short stories. I find novels quite tough.

It's a feature film idea, based on my grandfather's experiences in WW1.

Sounds good. I have a historical 'kind of war' drama project in mind which I have been meaning to do for years but am thinking of doing it as a stage play before a screenplay.
What stuff do you write other than comedy?

Have you had to do much research? I'm just at that stage at the moment and seeing where the story can go from there. But it's so fascinating I just keep researching and haven't got any further.
I probably would when the time comes to me actually getting round to doing it. But as with other stuff I do I would just make a lot of stuff up - it's a lot easier that way!
