I see what you mean. But I think - like Frank Carson - it's the way she told them. I still think they're better having that magic and gradually realising when they are ready. I wish my parents had bothered with the pretence

You know as some one who's never really done Christmas, the whole Christmas myth is a tad well "weird,"

I mean an old bloke who spends vast effort delivering presents, to kids who don't really need them.

Whilst ignoring genuine poverty and suffering.

I mean maybe Santa used to be a great idea in times of closer knit community.

Now it just seems like bending over for a major raping by the big corporations.

With a sprinkle of cinamon and holly.

Not at all. As has probably been said already, it's the way in which she told them. Not that they'd been lied to, as you seem obsessed with classing it as. And they're only about 7! Far too early.

I downloaded Bad Santa yeeeeears ago, when it was first released in the US (a year before it was out here, IIRC). Still not watched though. :/

Charlie Brown is so excruciatingly depressing.

But Scrooged, Bill Murray at the hight of his powers, a genuinely funny and not to sentimental script.

Damn I love that film, it may be the ultimate 80s film.
