ohhhh that always sucks. I got hit with a bad one a few months ago. I argued my way out of half of it though.
I use pay as you go, probably costs tons more but at least I know there is no bill coming.
I only ever text. And only ever to one person, who is on the same network as me (Virgin), so 3p a time. Nice and cheap. 
I might change to Asda pay as you go when my contract runs out. 4p txt, 8p calls, using Vodafone lines.
Yeah, my Dad's recently switched to ASDA based on their data rates. He's quite happy with them.

Aaron loves his Christmas tree, and must thank zooo for talking him into buying the pretty multicoloured lights, rather than the plain white/clear ones he had picked up.

I get free texts now on £10 a month pay as you go. That's for being a good customer.
