British Comedy Guide

Comedy Titanics?

Can anybody think of real comedy disasters that stunk out the schedules? I'm thinking along the lines of shows like Johnny Vaughn's Orrible, which premiered in the same week as the Twin Towers attack and actually attracted more vitriol and anger in the papers?

Little Miss Jocelyn? Blunder?

There's been a fair few disasters over the last few years but I can't remember the last time a comedy was actually dropped or moved to a graveyard slot... well apart from Tough Gig which is sort of a comedy - ITV have flung out of their Tuesday schedule rather fast!

BBC1 were certainly sweating when 'According to Bex' and 'Mad About Alice' were blocking up their schedules and attracting flack from every corner [deservedly in my opinion].

Blunder was axed after the first two episodes, right? Or was it moved to e4?

I think the copies of the first series were destroyed in a fire... It was strange the fire didn't spread to fonejacker.

Never know another one might come along at anytime

Painfully all six episodes went out on Channel 4. Same with Man to Man With Dean Learner.

Trevor's World of Sport was quickly moved to a less desirble slot and then re-emerged on radio - where it seemed to be more suited.
Also, despite being one of my top 5 sitcoms ever, 15 Storeys High was treated dreadfully by BBC 2

Roman's Empire.

Don't think RE was a comedy Titanic in the slightest, was it? Viewing figures, ok, not amazing, but respectable as far as I remember. Didn't get moved around, and I think (?) it may have a second series coming...?

Re Trevor's World of Sport, was it not radio originally?

I have come back momentarily to agree with Aaron. Yes, it was, and now is. I draw the line at ever shall be.

On the subject of According to Bex, what did happen with that? I always thought there was going to be a second series? And although it was pretty dire, that's never stopped the BBC recomissioning other Fred Barron shows.

Man to man with Dean Learner was funny!

There's a difference between dire-but-popular and channel-death. I'm pretty sure the viewing figures were so mortally low it may as well have been on BBC Four at about 3:37 am. Probably.

Did I ever say it didn't start on the radio?
