Movie Spin-offs

I was wondering what you guys think is the best spin-off movie from a TV show.

I know its tricky my bet would be either On the Buses or Dad's Army (oh why didn't they make the planned sequel!!!)

Wales

I can't claim to have seen every show or every spinoff of it, but I'd go with Dad's Army or (the first) Steptoe & Son.

I liked the Porridge movie.

Think I'd have to go with the first Steptoe movie. Just for the scene of Albert taking a bath in the sink. Dirty, dirty!

And weren't there strippers in one of the Steptoe movies?

Yeah, that was it, the first one. The proper stripper that Harold eventually marries and the drag act that Albert gets off with. And Mike Reid as compare!

It is between

The Likely Lads
Dad's Army
Up Pompeii

Most other have been dreadful, but Porridge and the Steptoe films are acceptable.

I have a fondness for the Please Sir! film.

Hmmm... Ermmm... Arrr... Eeee... what was the question?

I can't think of ANY!

Police Squad! - Naked Gun.

Good one.

Of the British ones, Porridge has to be the best imo. The Dad's Army one always annoyed me in the way we had to see all the setup again.

That's the trouble with a film. It's almost for a new market so everything we've learned about the characters over a series has to be re-emphasised.

Also the whole feel is not right. Not quite so cosy as you get with a TV show.

Porridge didn't work for me without the studio audience. But it is a good film in terms of its other qualities (script, story, etc).

I don't think any sitcom movie has ever lived up to its sitcom. But my top five sitcom movies are.
1. Till Death Us Do Part
2. Please Sir!
3. Dad's Army
4. Holiday On The Buses
5. Porridge
When watching the first half of 'The Likely Lads' movie, I thought, at last, a movie that has matched its sitcom in quality. But the second half was pretty naff, so then I soon changed my mind.

The first Steptoe and Son movie for me. On The Buses was also good but I have a fondness for anything Steptoe and Son.

I thought the first On the Buses movie was average, the second one was good and the third was very good, but none managed to match the quality of the TV series.
I've seen Steptoe and Son Ride Again loads of times, but have only seen the first Steptoe movie once and can't really remember it that well, I have vague memories of Harold going on his honeymoon.
