I can't comment on news aggregator services, but I don't really think it registered much in the press. The most mentioned bit seemed to be Russell Brand dedicating his win to Jonathon Ross. And already the whole ceremony seems to have been forgotten.

That's cause the ceremony itself was poor. I was annoyed at the three/four digs at Gervais as it just came across as jealousy. I liked it when Brand dedicated the award to Ross and also when Deayton said about 30,000 rightous twats complaining who probably never even heard the radio show.

I heard about that which basically sums it all up really. Of course Deayton's been on the wrong end of some flak himself.

He seemed quite respectful in knowing that he was only filling in for a year and that Ross was the real stalwart of that show, this year proves that without him it's nowhere near as good.

I loved the three/four digs at Gervais as they were amusing, correct, and long overdue.

So I suppose it depends on how much you love Gervais to begin with.

That had never occurred to me.

I love him, huge fan. Syill agree with the above.

Apologies for not carrying on with the Gervais theme, but...

I've noticed over the past few years a certain desperation in the writers award. After years and years of giving it to long standing, long serving legends, it was beginning to go to people right at the start of their careers (wasn't it Walliams and Lucas recently? Or someone like that?)

Surely David Renwick getting one is a further symptom of that? Not because the guy doesn't deserve it. But hasn't he won it before?

There's no consistency in the writers award. And is it meant to be awarded for a writers career to date, or just on the basis of what they've done in that year? Although David Renwick is one of our greatest comedy writers, so it's hard to grumble about him getting it.

Exactly, those comments were long overdue. If Gervais can mock the awards show, then surely they can mock him back? :D

Yep! If they do it wittily, like Angus did.
Not if they do it through the medium of booing, which is pathetic. Especially for so called comedians. :)

the medium of booing

Sometimes a good "booo" can be effective.

Only from the under 10s.

I require at least a heckle from a grown-up who works in f**king comedy. :D

And for people with very bad speach impediments.

Yeah that's what I meant.

Although it was nice to hear someone tell Gervais to "f**k off" as he launched in to this "Look at my awards" routine, it was belittled by the fact it was Corden and/or Bishop. That's what makes it so damn bittersweet. :D

I still don't get it why people get upset about any animosity directed at Gervais. The guys a multi-millionaire, can do aor make pretty much anything he wants - is he really going to be bothered by a few boos or heckles?
