Don't forget, he also narrated and did all the voices in the original Mr Men series.

Like it or not, I suspect that The Office will be looked back on as that era's Fawlty Towers.

I suspect it may be. But I'm also of no doubt that that's more due to the calibre of other shows in the same period, and not to The Office itself.

Well said, Aaron!

Sessions in the same sentence as Everett and Cleese?

You are dead to me.

You, sir, are issuing drivel.

Do you mean other shows such as Royle Family, and I'm Alan Partridge (have you seen this yet?) and Phoenix Nights?

Haha!

Very funny.

(Although Aaron might not get that cos he hasn't watched the Office much.)

Huh?

Quote: zooo @ December 8 2008, 2:51 PM GMT

Am I too? :(

No. That's possibly your only flaw. Chip, on the other hand... ;)

It was David Brent naming geniuses. :)

Zooo, I take your point!

I'm Alan Partridge is the only one of the three which is worthy of even consideration.

What about the liking Simon Pegg thing....

Thank you for breaking it to him gently.

For all his faults, his name already deserves to be alongside them.

I would have agreed with you a couple of years ago but The Office is now long gone and regarded by many (around the world) as just the catalyst to the monster US show. Extras is over and there won't be a another.....and I doubt that the TV spin off from Men at the Pru will happen (just can't see him doing a UKTV show and can't see HBO giving him the money for something so "English").

The Office will always be ground breaking but I cant see it ever winning a "best sitcom" type thing in 20 years time the way Blackadder/Only Fools does.

Ah I see.

Well one of the few, perhaps.

Well, I would imagine by general consensus, those three would be seen as comtemporaneous classics alongside the Office.

I shall start writing a list.

I'd still happily name it as one of my all time favourite sitcoms, and I suspect I will even when I'm Alan C's age. IMO, it is an undisputed classic, and as it's themes are timeless I think it will enjoy a fair amount of longevity.

Yes...but you thinking that doesn't make it so!

It doesn't win "best sitcom" shows now! Considering the ground it broke was already cracked by The Day Today, People Like Us and that no one really wants shows like that (grey and "real"), I'm not sure it will be much more than a quirky divergence from the norm in 20 years.
