In search of 'neighbourly disputes'...

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you might be good enough to give me some advice...

I'm conducting a piece of research about 'neighbourly disputes', specifically ones that result from someone adding something to their house or garden that interferes with one of their neighbours in some way. Whether it's an extension, a satellite dish, a new garden shed, a tree, new windows, or just something really stupid.

I'm looking for some sitcom footage to use in the research and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for scenes that might fit the bill?

Thanks v much.

Tom

Yeh, would be good but I think probably best to avoid the racial slurs!

Any scenes you could think of specifically?

Cheers. :D

That 70s show had a neighbourly dispute about a garage, where a guy claimed about one third of this neighbour's long-ago built garage.

It was in season 4, can't remember in which episode.

But, of course, that's American show.

What about George & Mildred? Can't remember any particular episode.

Griff didn't read the original post. In the episodes of Love Thy Neighbour which I've seen, I don't recall any change to the house being a cause of friction. Only the occupants.

However, there is one episode of Bless This House, at a guess from series 4 perhaps, where a (cherry?) tree, or something like that, in Trevor's garden comes between he and Sid.

I found an episode of One Foot In The Grave which is quite funny where Victor gets annoyed that his neighbour's tree is sucking the moisture out of his garden. It's not much of a dispute though, more just disgruntled mutterings.

What about the episode of One Foot In The Grave where someone was throwing their rubbish in Victor's garden, so he posted it back through their letter box.

The research is looking at small wind-turbines that people attach to their roofs to generate electricity, and the potential for them to cause problems for neighbouring residences. I'm looking for something that might fall into the category of 'home improvements' I guess.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will follow them up.

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em - I think it's the first episode of the last series where Frank falls through the loft into Mr Lewis's bedroom, but there's an ongoing feud between Mr Lewis and Frank throughout the series.

The Good Life had a few of these.
For instance in episode S03E05:
"When Margo has ordered a new windbreak to be put up in her garden, the Goods object that it will cast a shadow over their soft fruits that need light."

I could recommend an episode. The last episode of On The Buses titled Gardening Time where Blakey is living at the Butler's and lives next-door to Jack. A gardening competition is happening and both are competing, so they result in doing dirty tricks to each other's gardens.

Wasn't there an episode of Sykes which had Eric in a dispute with the neighbours... or am I thinking of Some Mothers Do 'Av 'Em..?

Most episodes of Sykes had a dispute between Eric and Mr Brown.
