Catherine Tate to be Doctor's new Companion

Oh God, please nooooooooooooooooo!! :S

I thought she was dreadful in the Christmas special and so did everyone else I spoke to about it (both my friends).

This is a huge, huge mistake.

Gutted. Sick

Yeah... what were they thinking?

I've really enjoyed the last few episodes too. Some decent writing... bearing in mind that it's childrens' TV... and I thought Freema Agyeman has been very good. Why ruin that?

It's the ol' ratings chase again...

I'm really not "bovvered". The character was a tad pushy and annoying, but could mellow with the development time that a full series would give. Freema's character I just never warmed to. And I only watched about a third of this series anyway. It just felt far too contrived to me, and suffered from some, IMO, weak plots.

Plus, as good as he may be otherwise, David Tennant only has 3 facial expressions, and they really wore thin.

I want Sally Sparrow *sigh*

Human Nature/Family Of Blood/Blink - 3 great episodes in a row.

Nothing to do with ratings though, the ratings have been really good.

Laughing out loud LMAO! That's a little unfair - he did do a good "wrinkly sad-eyes" expression when The Master aged him in the final episode.

I think Freema is pretty good, but Billie Piper played the role so well that it's difficult for anyone to replace her. I won't judge Catherine Tate until I've seen her in a couple of episodes, but her character needs to be less manic; she wore me out. :$

Ohh nooo... Freema is much better in my opinion. I grew to hate Billie's 'mockney' accent... :)

The only problem I have with Dr. Who (now that Billie is stuck in another dimension!) is that it's so BBC-centric... for example you get BBC specific 'news' bulletins (and presenters) within the show etc. And CT being chosen as the new companion appears to be more of the same.

First they ruin Walking with Dinosaurs by getting rid of Kenneth Brannagh and using that Nigel Marvin idiot. Now they are going to ruin Doctor Who. What happened to the young nubile companions? Now we've got a 40 year old woman! Any one who likes Catherine Tate should be shot, Tony Blair first

Although I think CT is a good actress based on her (nan) character. I do feel in a straight role she will get on my nerves. It will be like watching her schoolgirl character over & over.

My man who adores Dr Who is quite upset. He wants something to lust over & poor old Mrs Tate just does not have the Va va voom. (His words)

With CT, there'll be a lot of mugging to camera, that's for sure...

Bah!

And please (please, please, please) don't let them work a variant of 'am I bovvered' into the script... e.g. the last ever Dalek (again!) screams 'EXTERMINATE!' and... well you can guess the rest.

They will though won't they? Won't they? *Sigh*

I didn't say I didn't like her ... I just don't think she's right for the *BANG* Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Catherine Tate`s a fine actress, but as an assistant?

I was warming to Freema`s character and just as she`s starting to settle, she`s off!

Loved the special effects this series though.

This news has just ruined my night. She irritated the hell out of me in the christmas special, but i could live with it. "It's only the one episode" I told myself, "just be thankful its not a whole season." I dont see why RTD is in the position he is, not only are his scripts, as a general rule, always the weakest, he has now given an entire season to catherine tate. I havent heard of one person who has said that theyre happy about the decision. Some will say that they dont really mind too much, but thats about as positive as it gets. Then again maybe im mistaken, and there are people who think she's a great choice. But theyd be wrong.

Another reason for me not to watch Dr. Who :P

There are bigger reasons than this not to watch Doctor Who (amazingly). I stopped watching from the end of the New New York episode of this series. I'll consider watching again if either David Tennant or Russell T. Davis gets hit by a large vehicle.
