Do you understand the Parliamentary System? Page 3

Listen, I don't mind the queen, but let's not pretend she has a hard life. Ask a pensioner of equivalent age who lives on a council estate and is terrorised by ASBO yobs what life they'd rather have.

You make a good point Chips.

I still cling to the slim possibility that one day the Queen will just storm parliament and send Gordon Brown to the Tower to await beheading.

Lovey

Because she does bugger all but open fetes and wave at poor people.

Ah, the ill-informed proletariat rears his ugly head. ;)

I'm rather annoyed by the fact politics isn't taugh in school, I find it interesting but I hate to admit I really don't understand the systems at all.

I'm gonna learn after work I think

Bye!

That there Palin woman who ran for vice prez of the land called america says you can see Russia from Alaska. I figure it has to work both ways..........eh? ;)

Yes, it's possible. Russian and American territory is separated by only 2 miles at the closest point. You can even walk between them in the winter.

There's a great thriller by Lionel Davidson called Kolomsky Heights in which the hero does just that. Great book. Read it if you get the chance.

I shall hop me a russian poacher and ride into Barrow and visit my friend Sekem' and then make like hell over to Canada.

Just reserved it at my local library.

Our Governor General just prorogued Parliament by two months instead of allowing the Coalition Government to go through. She met with the Prime Minister for two hours but refused to meet with the Coalition before making her call.
She is officially the worst GG we have ever had. Nothing against your country or the Common Wealth but this makes me really really angry to have some non-elected person making these kinds of decisions. Angry

I'd love for some non-elected person to be making the decisions here!

Namely, the Queen.

Damn right.

She is one great woman and I'd respect her decisions more than a dimwitted prime minister named Gordon Brown.

And mostly every other MP aswell.

Sure...if she was running maybe.
I'm a fan of democracy and stuff like that.

There's something I find inherently disturbing and untrustworthy about someone who seeks power. Someone thrust into it and essentially trained to the role from birth, however, I could support.

That's actually made me look at it in a new light.
The trouble is she'd be bound to have a small group of unelected 'advisors' erm 'advising' her on what she should say and do. It would just be an invisible, unelected parliamant.

And in that respect the difference to now is what, exactly?
