I agree, but it's just not always that easy. I suffer from a mental disorder known as Trichotillomania which means that if I get stressed, I'll literally pull my hair out.

Before I was dianosed, I did some "mad" things. I even once took a scouring pad to my own face. Yes it was very painful. I have heard of people pouring bleach on themselves, shaving their heads, filing down their own teeth all to remove the "problem" they see in the mirror :(. One thing I have noticed is when I am upset or really stressed the "image" actually gets worse and new things appear. It does calm down a lot more when I'm happy.

Console Awwww Scatts!

I've suffered on a couple of occasions. Have taken Seroxat and Prozac.
Prozac is ace for the first few weeks. It's a real buzz. Anyway, most contributors, including myself are a bit mental as we seem to spend large portions of our lives in these forums. Ahhh, the sunlight!

People talk about Depression being an illness, but sometimes it's a lot simpler than that. Sometimes it's simply the way someone deals with bad fortune, e.g. if all 6 of your lottery numbers came up, the one week you forgot to play, you'd probably become depressed, every time you were reminded of it in the future.

I have Mixed Connective Tissue disease, which is a kind of Lupus. The body gets confused and starts attacking itself. It also makes you depressed. One, because there's no cure for it & I should expect a markedly decreased run time. And two, because it messes with your head. A bit. Sunlight makes me worse. I have to stay out of the sunlight. I think staying out of the sunlight is giving me a bit of S.A.D. The trick is to keep in perpetual motion & to have a morbid/silly sense of humor. Some of which is too ghastly to go up here.

Oh, yeah, both sides of the family have depression as well. Humor is definitely a coping mechanism. Sort of like an oyster with a grain of sand. The irritant produces something pleasant in the end.

Yeah, I'll join the hords of depressed comedians, although, I've been 'depressed' since I fell down a mountian when I was a kid. And yes, I FELL DOWN AN ACTUAL MOUNTAIN, 162 FT to be exact. The depression is a result of a multipule head injuries. But, crazy ass stories aside, I honestly don't think I would have ever considered comedy, if it wouldn't have been for my depression.
So, I say yay for depression, our slightly jaded world view enables us to let the rest of the world laugh... :D

There are some very brave people on here. I take my hat off to you all.

That example only highlights the difference between being exceedingly pissed off (missing out on a lottery win) and real depression (where actually winning a huge lottery payout wouldn't even make a difference to the way you feel / think). If a lottery win makes you feel better then you probably weren't depressed in the first place.

:P

Well said. Or imagine being scared of actually having that big lottery win.

You're lucky, I get scared about being scared if I had a win.
