Are the beeb short of writers?

When it comes to scheduling, there's no such thing as coincidence.
So, is anyone else taking comfort from the close proximity at two bits of programming aimed at encoraging new writers.
Last night we had Screenwipe, aimed exclusivley, I think, at wannabe writers and last week's R4 Feedback had a lengthy plug for the WritersRoom.
(Interestingly they made a big point of new talent not meaning young talent.)

Now, if they were overrun with good material, would they put this sort of stuff out.
Or, are we to take from this that, despite the huge amount of material submitted, there is still a dirth of quality stuff?

Personally the combination of these two bits of programming has spurred me on no end.

Yeah there is, hence the times when Towering Inferno has to be cancelled because there's been a fire in a towerblock. Or some serial killer film is replaced with one about kittens because there's been a particularly brutal murder in the news.

Actually,I meant the Beeb tend to 'theme' programs across the platforms.
Bad timing is something else!!
