I thought I would send a letter in the first instance, not just send the script straight off.

Of course I'd be disappointed if they hated it, but what if they really liked it? Who ever got anywhere by not taking a chance?

Yeah, i would never just send a script off straight away and say "read this". Definately ask first.

I guess I am quite! Thanks for the offer of re-naming but it will only give me a big head, or will it? Can someone give me advice on whether renaming this forum will give me a big head.

I say rename it.

It just so happens that this past two weeks I've been in need of quite a bit of advice whereas over the past 22 years I've managed to get by with very little advice from others.

Is the general thought not send a letter asking him to read my script? Or do you think I should just do it?

Ultimately I'm probably just gonna do it anyway, but would be interested to know what you think!

He just happens to know it or he got it via his business? If the later then him knowing it maybe fine but giving it to you isnt!

Assuming he just happens to know it then sending this guy a script sounds pretty lame...what's your covering letter going to say? "hi, you dont know me...or know anyone i know....and i dont know you (but i know where you live), anyway...have a read..."

Pointless.

As said earlier, not going to just send the script, will send a letter initially asking he would mind reading my script. It's such a good contact to have that it seems like an opportunity wasted not to contact him.

That's cool Mike. It's what forums are for.

If I were you I would write a letter saying how big a fan of his writing/performance etc you are. Say you are an aspiring young writer who has just written a sitcom script and wondering what the best approaches were to get someone to read it. He will either say he would be interested in seeing it himself, give you some advice as to where to send it, or just ignore the letter.

Put yourself in his shoes. Rest assured, even without people knowing his address he gets asked to read all kinds of stuff all the time.

Do not let some of the BSG snobs make you feel bad. If you have questions ask. Someone should give a dam enough to give you a civil answer or at least try to make you laugh and those who do not and only find fault.......Blah to them, I tell ya!

Quite right my snobbery is in no way just limited to the BSG.

My advice, for what it's worth, is to send him a letter. Leave it for about 2 weeks and if you've still not heard then send him another letter reminding him that as you know where he lives he'd better start sleeping with one eye open. Oh yes, don't forget to wish him a merry Christmas.
