We've been out three times though and that was how I asked her out initially.

To be honest, she doesn't seem very interested in you. Best just to move on. Otherwise you'll be labelled as 'that creep'. And believe me, that's not a good label.
I'm guessing I must have done something wrong on the third date then! Although at the end of the third date I asked if she wanted to go to the cinema sometime, she said yes. So, either I done something bad on the third date or in the week leading up to me asking her out on a 4th date, I done something bad, or she just changed her mind.
The only thing that really takes three dates to set in is boredom. Being a twat, ugly, etc is a one date deal breaker.....you just bore her

Ironically, I find that girls tend to be far more interested in you when you've already got a girlfriend. I find when I'm in a relationship I seem to get far more interest from women than when I'm single.

Gawd, I'm pedantic today. 
The seventies were all to do with love angst. David Soul and the bottom of that girl from Abba all that sort of thing. So it does fit in.
I wonder what Mike would have done, had his little problem been set, fictionally, in the 1970's. Mmmmm?
