Information about the Comedy Unit Page 2

Does The Comedy Unit take a long time getting back to you after your initial submission?

When i sent mine....

"As there is currently a backlog of material it could be 18-20 weeks before you get a response. We apologise in advance for this delay."

no better/worse than anyone else then.

I sent some stuff off the Niall Clark a couple of years ago and he was top class. He was about the only person who seemed to have actually read the script and he passed fair and considered comment on it even though he said he wasn't taking it any further in the end because it was too similar to something they already had in development at the time.

I never got invited up for tea and cake though...

Any idea what that show was? Did it do well or does he regret not going with your idea now? ;)

After reading this thread, I've sent a script to the Comedy Unit. Their response was prompt, and told me that there would be a 24-26 week wait. I've had dealings with Naill Clarke in the past too. It was a number of years ago, when they were doing Pulp Video (I think) for BBC Scotland. Very nice guy, held back a mumber of sketches and I think one maybe two made it to being filmed, but they didn't get into the final edit.

Thanks for posting this. As I've said before, aside from the laughs and the anarchy on these pages, it's good to get some info on how the business actually works. I guess you just gotta keep trying and hope that someone somewhere is gonna take notice.

I honestly can't remember what the hell it was now. We'd be talking about mid 2003 here so maybe whatever it was never made it to the screens. As far as regretting not picking up my idea then I'm not sure, the script sucked if I recall correctly.

They are one of the only companies that actually gave information on exactly what they thought my scripts stengths and weaknesses were, and why exactly they had decided not to take it any further. It was a full two pages of thoughts, which is unheard of in my experience of dealing with other companies, they generally seem to just be a one line, thanks but no thanks, style response; which is not in the least bit helpful and extremely frustrating. I always think that the very least they could do is a quick line or two about why exactly they are saying no, even if its just to say they didnt find it funny.

Sometimes volume prevents them from doing so but I know what you mean. Some answers you get back seem to suggest that they haven't actually read the entire script. It's very heartening to get one from somebody who has even if they are ultimately rejecting it.
