Acca (Acco?) fasteners

(First post -- hello!)

Anyone know where to get Acca fasteners (...or even what they look like)?

I used the last of a box of folding bulldog clips yesterday and noticed a number of prodcos suggest Acca/Acco fasteners. Okay, 'cept I don't know what they look like or where to buy them. Anyone else here use them?

They weren't mentioned in the binding thread I searched from last year.

Ta.

No idea. Is that it or this a welcome thread? If so - hello!

WH Smiths?

I wouldn't worry about what sort of fasteners you use. It's never gonna be a deal breaker for a production company.

Possibly they are the ones I show on this poage: http://www.datahighways.net/support/topic.asp?topic_id=104&forum_id=25
Called brads by the merkins.

It's the curse of Newbie writers everywhere that they worry unduly over the right font, the right layout, the right presentation, as if a brilliant piece of work will be dismissed out of hand because the reader is in the canteen laughing incredulously at a script typed in say Tahoma or something. Bulldog clips are going to come loose in the post aren't they? That's why you were probably advised to use something a little more reliable. Anyway, I thought they were called Brads or summat.

Here's your Acco things:

As above WHS for availability or even Staples and the like. But I suspect the Acco's are a Yank only thing as they both look identical to me.

Hi Bourbish

Why aren't you emailing your script? Hi BTW.

Ah, *that's* what they are...!

I'd certainly prefer to email (and did to Babycow, RFTP et al) but when sending unsolicited to a producer/script ed care of the BBC at Bristol, Elstree or some such it's arguably easier to send a hard copy -- less likely to be filtered out anyway.

Truth is, I had no idea what they looked like let alone where to get them and frankly, I'm not sure I can be arsed to punch holes in 80ish pages when I can just clip 'em together with a bulldog clip.

Thanks for the answers.

I know prodcers who get really pissed off about being sent emailed scripts, on the grounds they then have to try and work with the printer clunking in their ear for an hour or so - knowing the finished product is more than likely going to be a pile of shit anyway.

Most people don't mind, but it never hurts to at least offer a hard-copy.

As for using a bulldog clip - is that really a good idea? What if someone drops the script and the pages fall out? What if the clip's not on by the time it arrives in the post and the same happens just getting it out of the envelope? Would you be bothered to sort a pile of pages back into order, again knowing 99 times out of 100 (or more) it's going to be a waste of time?

Plus, Bourbish, you don't care enough about your own scripts to punch holes in them? That's what, a couple of minutes work and your scripts aren't worth that?

There are some very strict rules about script presentation in America and if you don't meet them, your script won't get read - or at least will be marked out as from an amateur before it's opened.

Thankfully the UK is much less proscribed, but there is one thing I bet everyone would agree on: SECURELY BOUND. It doesn't have to be brads, although if you do use them make sure you use longish ones - STAPLES do a 2" brass fastner which does the job - or the twinlock ACCO fastners work just as well.

Script presentationisn't worth obsessing over, but it is worth making a little effort - it's the equivalent to turning up to an interview in a suit. Yes, you're hiring the person, not the clothes; but it doesn't hurt to create a good first impression.

Blimey, now I feel really ashamed and will lovingly punch holes in every sheet that rolls off the Bourbish press... :$

Thanks for the Staples tip, there's one not too far from me (...but maybe not close enough to be arsed? :D )

What - a staple?

I cut all my holes by hand with tiny gold-plated scisssors.

Does that include your arse hole?

No, I had that sewn up - too messy.

This has been bugging me (yes, thanks, I have no life) but...

Whats all this Acco business? They're split-pins, surely!
