Well I felt that way about Last of the Summer Wine and... Only Fools and Horses.
But I think there was some genius stuff too!

Quote: Pete @ November 26 2008, 12:19 AM GMTAnything that was new in 85 onwards is ok, for me, nothing before then works. Yes Minister's ok...but only because i liked it as it had people in proper jobs.
When Steptoe & Son was first shown in the early 1960s, being a rag & bone man was a 'proper job' and we used to see them in the street regularly collecting old tat from houses with a horse and cart.
As a kid, if you nicked stuff out of peoples sheds and took it to a rag & bone man, he'd ususally give you a balloon for it.
That was like being given a PS3 game in those days!
*sighs*
Quote: Pete @ November 26 2008, 12:40 AM GMTNot hate no...i just remember watching that stuff and wishing my dad would go out so i could put something better on.
What did you consider to be better in those days, Pete?
Quote: Frankie Rage @ November 26 2008, 1:12 AM GMTWhat did you consider to be better in those days, Pete?
Anything aspirational or cool....A Team, Nightrider, Dallas .... something American with a big budget and bit sexy. Fat bloke in Prison didnt cut it for me.

I suppose I meant good job. I never got (nor do I now) why people on TV in the UK need to be ugly and broke.

I think it's refreshing to see a regular person on TV instead of an endless parade of perfect faces, perfect bodies, perfect teeth and perfect hair. I'm always happy when I see a "normal" person on U.S. television, but it seems to be a little more commonplace on UK TV.
Ah. You want TV to always be aspirational?
When I was little I did used to get really annoyed with Byker Grove. Apart from a select few (the lovely Ant and Dec) they did seem to go out of their way to only employ absolute shockers.

Well you can't be mean about them, bless their little Northern hearts.
I wonder if thingy from Alan Partridge based his awesome Geordie accent on them...

I'm preeeeeetty sure I can.
One of them got married near where I live. Lived. Parents house. Whatever. You get the picture.
Tiny church in a tiny village. People weren't best pleased.
Aw, was that Ant? Naughty.
I think Dec's single again now.
Don't all rush ladies!

I can walk down the street to see ugly people. I watch TV for fun.....if I put on some music I don't want someone that sings like a normal person - I want someone who sings superbly.

I wonder how much the entire lot is on DVD now.
Pah! Buffy sucks. Here's yet another fearsome vampire! Only it's not really because we can beat it with a few karate kicks. Then that bloke says something sassy. And Buffy pulls a serious face. Then the ginger one's 'kooky'. Pah! I say! Pah!

Nothing? Dear God man . . .

And yet a time travelling fop you have no problem with.

It's a deeper world, there's a hell of a lot more variation, the lead character isn't a sour face, unlikeable thing, there's more or less unlimited scope, The Doctor doesn't just karate kick Daleks in the head and they fall over dead every week, one of the two is the longest running sci-fi show of all time; and Buffy stinks too.
Oh, and The Doc ain't a fop!
Quote: Matthew Stott @ November 25 2008, 10:26 PM GMTYou dislike American comedies in general don't you Ben?
No, Matt. I can take you to a court of law to prove it if you want.
Quote: Matthew Stott @ November 25 2008, 10:26 PM GMTI love Friends. Even now I'll sit and watch it several times a week.
At least it keeps you off the common.

I'm pretty sure you said something like that on here once . . . .
