Russell Howard - Live

I watched Russell Howard's new standup DVD last night. It's only just over an hour long, but I have to say that it's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time (including Top Gear). There were a few lines I recognised from Mock The Week but most of it was brand new, and even those bits that weren't had been expanded upon and taken out further. Had me cackling and giggling all the way through. Very good stuff, and really quite impressed indeed. Can't recommend it enough.

That's good news, I like him as a person from seeing him on TV but I find him a mixed bag at times on MTW and Live at the Apollo in terms of material. I will watch the dvd for sure.

He has a massive head and tiny little arms...

kjs

I read 'live' as in the verb in its imperative mood.
I was about to disagree before I realised.

From what I've seen he's just half Russell Brand (crap whimsy and obvious targets) and half Eddie Izzard (fey delivery and lots of poncing about)

Can't stand the man - witless and comedian for people who don't understand good stand up.

Are you saying Brand and Izzard are crap too? Or just that Howard has assimilated some of their stuff, but does it badly?

Seefacts you're so ruuuuude! Laughing out loud

Brand = shit.
Izzard = ace.

I'm saying he's like both, in some horrible mismatched amalgamation.

RH is a typical 2008 comedian. Not much material, and what he has got is lacklustre whimsy name-checking The Daily Mail, Big Brother and Hitler. He can't ad-lib and he's not a natural comic.

Thanks. You're ace though.

You're proving your ignorance. Couldn't be further from the truth.

Izzard = ace.

And so your opinion is null and void anyway.

Not from what I've seen of him.

Let me change my opinion slightly.

Izzard = WAS ace.

I do like the fact me and you disagree on EVERYTHING. You looking forward to the School of Comedy series? :P

His latest run has been getting very positive reviews, it seems he's taken a step or two back up again.

Is he doing stand up again? Cool.

I'm sure it'll have the exact same humour content as the pilot.

That's a big fat 0%.

Anyway, back to Howard, as I said, I watched the DVD the other night. There was, IIRC, one mention of Mail readers (but not in the context of the Mail I don't think, if that makes sense), but otherwise nothing along those lines at all.

And it's about time; stop with all the acting nonsense.

As for Howard, I've only ever seen him on panel shows, but he always seems quite amusing and likeable.
