You will have the option. The idea that America will ever get sensible gun laws is absurd. You guys will always be allowed to carry whatever you want and shoot whoever you like. That's the American way.

True so true but most american's will not admit it They pull out the declaration (written by a bunch of trigger happy equal right offenders) as a lame example. They need to be controled because gun violence is out of control.

Even the IRA and the PLO changed their constitutions.

Trouble is, they use gun violence being out of control as an argument for why they need yet more guns.

Oh yes they do chipolota. I have to wonder if it is genetic? ?

Why do you want that specific rifle? What can that give you that you can't get from the thousand and one other guns avaliable?

Because it's nearly identical to the M-16 that I became familiar with while serving in the army. It's a good, reliable, fun-to-shoot rifle.

Rolling eyes

It's the second amendment to the Constitution, not the Declaration of Independence.

Do some research into gun crime in the U.S. and you'll find that the overwhelming majority of it is committed by drug dealers, gangs and street thugs and not the suburban guy with a rifle in his closet and a handgun in his car.

IRA changed their methods rather than their constitutions

Okay I stand corrected but that fact on the trigger happy still stands. I beg to differ with your version of gun violence. However, once addicted to guns, hard to change, I hear! Sad but true....genetics I bet.

What if your car gets stole and they ramraid into your house?

I reckon gun ownership of pistols especially is a very bad thing.

But being able to borrow or rent on as and when needed basis from the police is a passable one. It works in alot of countries.

Also I think pepper spray, tazers etc should be saleable with a strict vetting/licensing process.

Bringing issues like race, poverty and drugs into the discussion immediately taints the subject, but take a look at the figures:

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/race.htm

If you live in the ghetto, sell/buy drugs, run with a gang or generally participate in the thug scene you stand a good chance of being involved in gun crime. If you don't, you're unlikely to be involved in a gun crime unless you cross paths with the aforementioned type of people.

So-called assault rifles are used in something like 1% of all gun crimes.

I can just about understand the logic of owning a handgun for self-defense. But an assault-rifle? It seems riduculous, and not at all what the framers had in mind.

What qualifies as an "assault rifle" in your definition of the term?

I'm no gun expert and I don't want to be. I guess I'm thinking of rifles where you put a clip in and you can just spew out bullets willy-nilly.
