My Latest Pipe Dream

Okay, so, all this week I've had a monster cold, which has caused me to wheeze like Mr. T, and speak a bit like Bobcat Goldthwaite. It's also been affecting my sleep, making me wake up almost every hour. Fortunately, this predicament actually brought me some good luck, about 5 days ago, when I woke up at 6 in the morning, and a film idea just appeared in my head, out of the blue (I know we're all sitcom people on here, but this idea would only really work as a film). I immediately got up, and started making notes in a nearby pad, and I've been working on it every day since. I won't say too much about it, apart from the fact that it's a comedy, and it's set in New York, in 1977, which was the year of a famous electricity blackout in the city.

Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all this, is because I'd love to eventually send the script to a pretty famous actor, who I think would be perfect for the lead role, and thought some of you might be able to tell me how likely, or, more to the point, unlikely, it would be, that I could actually get a script to him. Okay, so the actor in question, is none other than David Spade, from Saturday Night Live, and Just Shoot Me. I know, I know, this is crazy talk for a nobody, but the story is set in New York, and is about New Yorkers, so there's no point me sending it to any British actors.

So, what do you reckon? Has anyone else ever tried to get a script to a famous American actor?

Whilst I have no experience myself, a friend of mine has done it. Bryan Waterman has an independant animated movie in the works and he's managed to get Leslie Nielson to play a role in it...he found the agent that represented him and kept on pestering, basically.

You can normally find details of agencies online quite easily with the power of Google.

So it is possible, write the script and when it's finalized, go for it!

Wow, that's really encouraging. Thanks.

I tried writing a sitcom with Rich Hall in mind. Maybe I'll finish it someday as see what happens.

Write a really, really good screenplay first - and at least you've got a bit of a chance!

If it's a really good part for him and you could somehow get the script to him personally (bypassing his agents and people) and he liked it, it could be the start to get the ball rolling.

You've got a chance, but you've got absolutely no chance if you never write it and give it a go. So get writing!
