I heard The Party Line last night for the first time . . .

Curate's egg . . good in parts for me !

:)

Agreed. Always seems a nice safe sitcom. No huge laughs, no great insights, but it trundles along nicely.

The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul is (in my opinion) Douglas Adams' best book. If you're enjoying the radio show, the book might appeal also.

Dan

Your the first person I've ever seen to say that The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul is Douglas' best book. The general opinion is that this one was inferior to the first Dirk Gently novel. I personally though Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency was the better book whereas The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul was ok, but seemed rushed out and somewhat less clever than the first.

I read somewhere that Douglas was paid something like $2million to pump out a follow up his first Dirk Gently story.

I do like The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul though and I will be buying the CDs of the recent radio version.

Hasn't been mentioned yet, but last nights Another Case of Milton Jones where he was a world famous photographer was excellent. Big silly fun with a good hit rate amongst it's many, many gags. And a must for pun fans. Best radio comedy since Bleak Expectatations.

Listened to that Series Of Psychotic Events; didn't think much of it. After reading the rave reviews I was looking forward to it, but felt dissapointed. I'll give the next episode a go, though.

Can't believe Listen Against got another series. I normally like Jon Holmes (he's great on The Now Show) but this is painfully weak, lifeless stuff. Not least because Radio 4 shows satirising BBC radio always poke fun at the same targets: The Archers, Today, Women's Hour...all very predictable.

I liked Danny Robins Music Therapy last night, especially the traffic warden rap. Brilliant!

Heard just about enough of this last night to realise I would not enjoy it. It would fall flat on its arse if it had to be recorded with an audience. Jon Holmes, from what I've heard of his 6 music show, strikes me as a rather unfunny sort, obviously given to thinking he's terribly cutting.

I think he is genuinely very good on The Now Show. He just hasn't got the major league talent needed to carry his own show.

I'd agree with everything above, Listen Against bored me, but Danny Robins Music Therapy was a joy to listen to. If you haven't heard the latter show yet, I'd recommend checking it out. It takes a little while to warm up, but when they start chucking out the tunes it becomes something rather good. "Stop... Parking Fine!"

Another great episode of Milton Jones last night. Big silly comedy well worth a listen if you like big silly comedy.

Hasn't been mentioned yet, but Clare In The Community is back on Tuesdays at 6:30. A masterclass in radio sitcom writing and one of the station's most succesful shows.

Actually, I think it is on Wednesdays. It is also the repeat of the fourth series, with the fifth due to be recorded next month.

You're right, it is Wednesdays. The hideous Listen Against is Tuesdays.

I didn't mind Listen Against this week. Nothing outstanding but I laughed a fair few times. I liked the sketch about Paul McCartney touring Narnia, even though "Narnia" sketches have been done to death in everything recently, cos I liked the punchline "We are worried that if Sir Paul visits Narnia he will end up marrying the White Witch".

:) I didn't hear that. Good line.
