The most Twisted Fairytale. Page 2
Thats the one!
"Come into my house of sweeets chiiiillllllllddddd"
Not a fairy tale as such, but The Company of Wolves was a great atmospheric retelling of a mishmash of old tales. Beatifully shot, fantastic interweaving, and who can argue with the image of a naked Danielle Daxx running around the set?
Oh youre making me want to watch The 10th Kingdom now-it's all about fairytales gone wrong after someone stops telling them-its really clever and inspired. I like Pan's Labyrinth, too, which is along similar lines-but Spanish
Just read through all these. I forgot all about Hansel & Gretel.
When you look at it we do scare the shit out of kids dont we. No wonder some of them turn out to be mentals.
Cartoons are not much better. Like road runner. Its okay to chase someone over & over kids. Lie in wait for them then pounce. Oh & if you die dont worry it is only for a few seconds.
No wonder there is no fear in small children. LOL
Sheep dog and wolf was one of my favs and foghorn leghorn violence that is rarely seen in anything under a 15 nower days
Woah, Gavin, can we have that in English now please?
Slightly changing the subject, I once saw a film called Grim Prairie Tales which was 4 small films in 1.
One tale was about a cowboy who came across a pregnant woman walking alone in the prairie (No Coming across jokes please). They camped together around a fire, and as the cowbow tried to sleep, he heard funny noises from the woman. It turns out she's not really pregnant as her belly has disappeared. Needless to say she seduced him, and in the throws of passion, the camera moved to a top down view of the guy on top of the girl. As soon as the guy came, he screamed, and his whole body was sucked inside this woman. It ends with her walking through the prairie, pregnant again!
Very amusing, and you wince when you see that scene
Sounds f**king hilarious. :\
Rosco - that puts a great horror twist onto fairy tales
Often the point behind many fairy tales was to pass hidden messages to the youngsters who were maybe too young to accept the cold truth. Many concern sexual attitudes. That partly explains the fear and horror hidden in them.
As Company of Wolves rightly points out it's no coincidence that a sexually aggressive man is often called a wolf. The idea of a werewolf is the man who seems charming in the day but, whatever you do, don't get caught alone with him in the night when he becomes an animal. A wood equates to growing up, being lost, directionless, alone, which is where LRRHood meets her wolf. Even the red in Red Riding Hood's cloak is symbolic of awakening passion, as is the cloak that is used (unsuccessfully) to protect her from the predator's eye. The red cloak in a dark wood isn't great camoflague and actually highlights to the wolf that she's a target.
A developing and awakening young woman in the clutches of a 'wolf'. It's the equivalent of today's "don't go off with someone who has puppies or sweets" but much more poetic.

Red Riding Hood was a right little strumpet that used to go out at night and tease a half-man half-wolf creature.
What about Peter and The Dyke?
Are you sitting comfortably?
Try here for, in my opinion, the best version of Little Red Riding Hood http://www.xs4all.nl/~ace/Literaria/Txt-Dahl.html

Yeah it could have been eh. Maybe she was part bat & slept upside down. Thus causing the cloak effect. *claps*
