Was a good 'un.

So did I. I just think it falls short of greatness. Which is a shame, since all the ingrediants were there if they just pushed it a bit.
Quote: Pete @ November 16 2008, 4:46 PM GMTI think the Curb and Lead Balloon connections are fairly well established.
I know a lot of people repeat that.
I just don't really see it. Even if the makers of Lead Balloon agreed themselves, I don't think I would. (Have they?)
Good on Jack. I see them as having a similar root (the home life of someone involved in comedy), but taking very different directions. Lead Balloon sticks straight to his work as a struggling and semi-successful comic, and how his family affect and interfere (and vice versa), whilst Curb Your Enthusiasm is a comedy writer's excruciating lack of tolerance, patience, and social skills. His profession is largely irrelevant to the show. He doesn't even need to be of any particular fame for it to work.
The funny thing about Lead Balloon IS because you know exactly what is going to happen. You're waiting for te car crash and you're not disappointed.
This kind of intrigues me. I never (or extremely, extremely rarely) know what is going to happen, in any show. (On a first watch, obviously.)
Maybe that's a writer mentality that your mind runs ahead and looks for the possible plot forks and scenarios.
Or maybe I'm just particularly stupid.
(Probably both.)

Probably!
It's the writer thing, yes.
"My life is just like a Jack Dee sitcom, It's mediocre, middle-aged, and exactly copied off Curb Your Enthusiasm."
Stewart Lee
I saw him speak them words the other night.
I still don't agree with them, but it was jolly funny.
Doesn't strike me as funny either (the comment). I guess you had to be there.
If you'd hidden under my coat, you could have been!
When's it on?
