I feed mine all the time - as soon as it runs out I top it up! I'm not some kind of creepy feeder honest gov, I just thought cats weren't like dogs in that they ate only when they were hungry and not just for the sake of it

I wasn't having a go at you specifically. But as you've taken it that way.
The cat's not unfortunate, it's been mistreated. As Ruby said, an animal will generally eat whatever you put in front of it, it doesn't know when to stop. If a baby was really fat, would that be cute? I don't think so. Obviously we think differently about these things.
And to say that you 'feel sorry for any fat birds I know' is just nasty. I don't hold being 'fat' against anyone, I'm not exactly thin myself and neither are many of my family. But we, as adults have a choice to eat less and exercise more, a choice that cat obviously didn't have.
I wish I hadn't have posted now, I feel like shit for no reason.

She doesn't actually seem to eat that much though, that's why I thought this. A dog would lap up everything you gave to it even if was about to burst, but she seems to eat a bit and then wander off and come back later. I'll be keeping an eye on her weight now.
