British Comedy Guide

Where are they now?

I thought it might be interesting to post the whereabouts of some of comedies heroes from days gone by.

Of course, many of them are six feet under, but for those who are still alive, what are they up to now?

I'll start:

Paul Shane - Popped up in a new episode of A Touch Of Frost last week and doing panto in Barnsley this Christmas.

Ruth Madoc - Panto in Rhyl, North Wales this year.

Jimmy Perry (Dad's Army Creator/Writer) - Had two scripts rejected by BBC recently. The scripts were considered "old hat".

Connie Booth - Works as a Psychiatrist in North London.

Eric Chappell (Rising Damp Writer) - Writing and producing plays.

Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais - Movie writers

Anymore for anymore?

Is Derek Nemo still alive?

I believe he is hunting warships in his giant submarine the Naughtiness.

I guess things just move on. The trailer for David Croft's Here Comes The Queen wasn't great, no disrespect to him of course. Comedy has just moved on since their day.

Is it a pilot or a series?

I think it's a series.

When's it due to air?

I'm not entirely sure how much has been made. I've heard about it (well, a Croft programme at least) talked about as being a series, so I'm assuming it's that one.

Mike implied he recently met with Croft though, so perhaps saw a trailer privately.

Just the pilot was made, they couldn't sell it to the BBC, ITV or any of the big guns so it went off to MIPCON in Cannes back in October last year, but unfortunately nothing came of that. The trailer can be seen on youtube by typing Wendy Richard into the search bar.

David Croft's daughters sitcom (Zip & Hollow) is assumed to be having the same problems. She did mentioned an internet release if TV were not interested.

Ah darn. We need some proper comedy back on TV. Pity to hear that. :(

Can anyone shed any light on what Sheila Fearn is up to these days?

Always found her very attractive and a damn fine actress.
