It those votes that are gonna seal the victory.

And then Obama will have to govern in the way that Americans want him to govern. He'll be more like Bush than foreigners might like, but he'll be American enough to win the support of the American people.

The shine will come off an Obama presidency very quickly, but he'll acquire an American patina that Americans will relish.

Will Europeans be so supportive when Obama follows through with his promises to take care of business in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran? Americans will ...

I knew that there was a reason I liked you, EMS.

an Obama presidency will not result in touchy-feely peace on earth.

:)

Nobody thinks Obama is Jesus or summink.

I think they do. And they're going to be disappointed when Obama bombs other countries, kills people and stands up for The United States of America.

Well okay then, none of us here. :)

I just think he's the (quite a lot, admittedly) lesser of two evils.

It's kind of weird when people from another country get so worked up about an American election. What would the response in Europe be if Americans poured themselves into every discussion of every European election? Somehow I think terms like "meddling" and "mind your own business" would be thrown about.

I know, I've been thinking that myself this whole thread!

But it's on the news and in the papers every single day here. I doubt in America you would get one word of discussion on a UK election in the media.

So it's in our brains whether we want it to be or not.

Not a big deal. The only thing that really annoys me is when a foreign candidate uses the U.S. as his/her main platform because it's an easy candidate. How many European candidates over the last few years can lay their success at George Bush's feet?

There's huge coverage, but we tend to think, "It's their concern, not ours."

I think it's fair to say that elections in Europe aren't carried out on the same scale as America. The winner of the American Presidential election is representative of the views of a massive number of people.

Plus it's such a showy event, because it's a Presidential election it's so easy to get caught up in it the personalities of both candidates. From afar it's very easy to polarise the candidates and boil them down to key personality characteristics. Obama is Jesus and McCain is old. Palin is a right-wing nutjob and Biden is, well, unimportant. It's glitzy and glamorous compared to the elections we have over here, the tax doesn't affect us so we can focus on the issues without worrying about the stats. It's just so easy. Plus with the Americanisation of Europe and elsewhere it does appear that American actions have a huge impact on the rest of the world. Even if they don't it certainly feels like they do.

Interesting viewpoint. But f**k the U.S. and concentrate on your own issues. They're more important to you. Don't be like Americans, be yourselves.

I can't vote anyway so I can stick my nose in and out of any politics without concern. :P

Too young? Surely you must be close to being able to pull the lever?

Oh he pulls his lever all the time.

John McCain will make that illegal! Angry
