Worse is my wife - she leaves hers at home so I pay. Grrrr!

Quote: zooo @ October 23 2008, 1:58 PM BSTI sometimes sit on the inside seat on a bus/train like that, if I'm going to be getting off at the next stop and I don't want to have to climb over someone to do so. I always assume that if someone wants to sit down they will ask, and I will stand up and let them get in past me.
Exactly. I often put my bag(s) on the seat next to me, but am more than happy to move them if someone wants to sit down. Although why anyone would want to sit next to me I don't know, but you get the point.
Quote: zooo @ October 23 2008, 2:02 PM BSTTell you what, if we meet on a bus, you can sit on my lap.
You can sit on mine.
Rawr.
I'm starting to look like an unreasonable bastard now aren't I....
Nope...no...you're all wrong!

I hate people who do that because it puts the emphasis on me asking if they can move their stuff. Sometimes when I see people doing that I want to stab them in the head.

Agreed.
I sometimes lean on the seat in front and it amazes me how often someone choses to sit in the seat in front of me even if there are several other pairs of empty seats elsewhere.
Putting your bags on the seat is really saying 'don't sit here'.
Quote: Bad dog @ October 23 2008, 3:32 PM BSTPutting your bags on the seat is really saying 'don't sit here'.
No, it's saying "no one's sitting here at the moment, so I'm not going to hold a huge bag on my lap when there's a more than adequate empty space right next to me which can be used until someone gets on".

I would imagine that people generally want to stab me in the head anyway.
It doesn't necessarily put an emphasis on you though. Most people who put their bags on an empty seat move them before anyone has to ask.

Ah, but do you move you bag if someone is standing? A lot of people don't - more fool the standers I guess.
I just think that if a bus is crowded it's courtesy to move the bag so no-one has to talk to you.

Stop it, Aaron.

Some people might say that you wanting to randomly stab people in the head for doing something mildly irritating is SLIGHTLY worse than the doing of the something irritating.

Yeah, I want to stab them people in the head too.
You're a gem.

Of course. Well, if they're standing anywhere near and showing the remotest interest anyway; if the only person standing is at the other end of the bus/carriage, looking the other way, and totally immersed in their paper/book, then it seems a little pointless.
I may be a c**t, but I'm not just plain rude.
Quote: zooo @ October 23 2008, 3:42 PM BSTStop it, Aaron.
Sorry Miss.

Is anybody ever really immersed in their paper or book? Or are they just pretending in the hope of avoiding human interaction?
I'm quite proud that my blinkered hatred of snooty old women on buses has provoked such fevered debate. Excelsior!
Does that mean the same as 'Back of the net'?
